Medication refusal

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I new nurse (LPN), and I have a pt that refused to wake up and take his meds!!! I at least like him to look conscience when I give him the meds, and needless to say he doesn't... And I have to check his FSBS... Which he barely moves for. So I have done the FSBS first then tried to wake him, but still nothing... I'm giving the pt Prilosec and megace (appetite stimulator). Any suggestions!! So my question is at what point should it be a refusal? I don't want the man to choke.

refusal has such a negative ring

my rule of thumb is offer it three times

then document pt. did not accept meds

as others have said, the bigger picture needs

to be addressed

Arouse, commonly used pertaining to readiness for sexual activity.

That may be a "common" use (and I'm well aware of that, duh), but it's not the exclusive meaning.

you guys are getting all excited (is that the same as arousal ? :)) over

one letter

Apparently is some locales, it IS the common usage, one SHOULD be aware of such things.

I just wanted to thank (insert sarcasm icon here) everyone who led me to google "arouse." Not such a good idea. And I just wanted a definition (FWIW, it seems that arouse and rouse are interchangeable and I can't find anything that arouse only suggests something sexual).

No,no. I actually think they're *stimulated* by the discussion, lol

Well I don't want to arouse my patients. I'd prefer to just rouse them. I suggest seeing if med times can be changed or perhaps make him be the last patient you pass your meds too.

Lol wowwwwww thanks guys!!!! My pt is now use to me, and takes his meds , he suffers from a lot of confusion.... Since we're all here...How long to tell if nursing is for me?? I'm trying to figure out whAt part of the job I don't like.. Would it be better as a RN... I just don't know.
