Well it depends on the school & if you're going for your LVN or RN. Some LVN programs have pre-reqs, some don't. All RN programs have pre-reqs. I would contact the school directly since we don't know what school you are looking into or know where you live.

But yes, you will probably have to take classes since the MA classes don't count toward a nursing license.

PS. Unless you are a nurse, I would change your screen name. It is illegal to portray a nurse if you are not one.

Do you have all your pre nursing required courses completed?

Totally depends on the school, but we had a girl in my program that graduated with her medical assistant degree in August (2014) and started the RN program that September (2014)

Where did you attend 'medical assistant school'? If the medical assisting program was at a community college, you might need to take a few prerequisite courses and pass an entrance exam if you hope to be admitted into nursing school.

However, if the medical assisting program was at an investor-owned school (read: Everest College, Carrington, Platt, Brown Mackie, American Career College, Sanford Brown or just about any school that advertises on daytime TV), you'll need to start from scratch since all credits earned are unlikely to be accepted for transfer.

its actually not illegal to portray a nurse.... its illegal to portray a doctor, police, officer judge, military official, priest or government worker. plenty of CNA's or MA's call themselves nurses and i see no problem with that nor do most nurses

Oh UCSDRN, did you just open a can of worms :nailbiting:.

There are many many (did I say many?) threads about people calling themselves nurses, especially Aides and MAs, when they are not. YES, most nurses do care, and YES, it is illegal in most states to call oneself a nurse. Not just an RN or LPN, but "nurse". It is a protected title. You are claiming a professional title that you have not earned.

Here is the California Board of Registered Nursing's position on impostors who pose as nurses:

It is unlawful for any person or persons not licensed or certified as provided in this chapter to use the title "registered nurse," the letters "R.N.," or the words "graduate nurse," "trained nurse," or "nurse anesthetist."

It is unlawful for any person or persons not licensed or certified as provided in this chapter to impersonate a professional nurse or pretend to be licensed to practice professional nursing as provided in this chapter.

By the way, the overwhelming majority of state BONs have laws forbidding unlicensed persons from portraying themselves as nurses to the unsuspecting public.

Why would you go to nursing school? According to your user name, you're already a nurse!!
