Hey ! I know im super early to make this thread for the MDE program at Columbia for the 2021 start year ? but I was wondering if there are any future nurses out there as eager as me to get started !!
I don't want to stress anyone out more but just so you know and aren't stress wondering I figured I would share...... I went to an info session a week or two ago and they mentioned they had about 1700 started applications where they usually have 800 or 900. That doesn't mean all of them will be completed before the deadline though! So I would assume they're just starting to review the applications early because of the influx. I figured this was probably r/t COVID since its happening with a lot of graduate programs but I was surprised to see it for nursing just because the prerequisites aren't usually something you can complete in only a couple months.
Kinda kicking myself for not getting my *** together earlier, but oh well.

Also, I think it is important to take the full time allotted to complete the applications. There is always room for improvement so we need to take advantage of that.
Totally agree. I mean y'all are making the extra effort to look up/create internet forums with other applicants - I feel like that speaks for itself as far as how committed you are and how much you care, you know?? And that will show through in your application.

1700 ?!? That’s definitely a lot. But you’re right, it doesn’t mean they will all be completed by the deadline ! Crossing my fingers for each and everyone of us here ??But I am surprised for nursing too because prerequisites are no joke when it comes to getting them done
@meghan0808 Exactly! The pandemic caused many of my friends to want to pursue nursing....and when I asked them why they said it was because of the large bonuses the nurses were receiving during the pandemic, LOL and various other poor reasons . So they are applying to various schools as well......see what I mean? There may be plenty with an extraordinary GPA and those that talk a big game but admissions will be able to see right through all of that.

This makes me feel a lot better. We know nursing schools are looking for passion and empathy and we can show them that in our essays and application because it’s real.

Me too! Honestly my emotions along with I’m guessing all of us has been ????. Sending a virtual social distance air hug to all of you. We got this ❤️
@KAS212 WHAT BONUSES LOL most my friends are nurses and they've all basically had their heads handed to them for the last 7 months. They lost shifts if anything because hospitals stopped elective procedures etc. And if you're in this career for the money...... ? there are more lucrative options that require a lot less brainpower and emotional energy.
Does anyone think they will accept more students because there are more applications?
Also, I do not think submitting your application by the deadline is going to hurt any of us. This is coming from someone who has changed her essay 486754 times, has not slept in days, but if we are putting as much passion, love, and effort as we say we are IT WILL SHOW! Our applications will standout among the others!
Also is anyone applying MDE/DNP in Pediatric Primary Care? I have not met anyone who is !
Some of the nurses from AZ took travel assignments to NY and I guess they received a nice compensation for going.....IDK how true that is though that they were compensated extra. Anyways, I am making it a strong point to not bring up covid at all anywhere on my application LOL

The timed writing is randomly generated so everyone gets a different random question. My question was related to helping the community on making it a better place basically. The video interview question is in the application, about an obstacle we overcame.
