Did anyone apply to th enursing program at miami-dade? Have you gotten a response yet?
I understand you can not read correctly. All I know is that if you made it so will I. Nursing is not supposed to be easy, and it is not impossible. What I had written before was that what really counts is motivation. If you have motivation you need little else. Either way you need to better your way of putting things. something like "nursing school is hard, but if you work at it you will make it, and you will be a wonderful nurse." Nurses are supposed to know how to talk to people, and they are suppose to posses a bit of psychology to be able to communicate things. You do not have that ability.
why are you so mean?
Is that how you are going to be to your patients when they ask you to repeat instructions? If nurses are "supposed to know how to talk to people.." you obviously do not possess that skill. and others in this forum could see right thru that.
If I can make it, others can. But hopefully God is great, and you won't. I would never ever want to have such a mean spirited nurse.
My God! I told you to read again because I said motivation is more important than anything. More important than GPA or grades. I am not the first to go into nursing in my family. I can handle it. If you made it, I can do it. Believe me. I came to this sight for help, not for people to discourage me, and tell me nursing is too difficult, and on top of that, that my past har work means nothing.
boy you are not very bright! when was I discouraging you?? when did I tell you that nursig is too difficult?? when did I tell you that your past hard work means nothing???
I never once addressed you in a negative way as you have done plenty of times to me in this forum.
It is not that I am mean. You are dicouraging. All you talk about is how BCC is better, and how GPA does not matter. I have worked just as hard as you, and all you talk about is how it is to hard, and that the past means nothing. What I had said before is that nursing is not supposed to be a walk in the park, and that it takes motivation above everything. All you can say is how hard it is to get through nursing school and that there scores are high. I have two children I live in poverty. I am working hard to get out of school and than someone comes, and tell me that she hopes I never get to be a nurse.
So that I can live making five bucks an hour, and so that my children can also live a bad life. Anyway perhaps you took it the wrong way, but I don't take it back. I have worked hard and you did not take it into consideration. All you said was that when I get into nursing the test are hard and people with there bachelors failed. You did not phrase it in a way that would be more meaninful. Perhaps stating that pre reqs will help, but nursing is very difficult. You could have stated it in a way like Hey look congrats on your GPA and work hard in nursing. It is very hard. I had a difficult time getting in, and when I was in I worked very hard to be an R.N. If you really want to be a nurse you will, and I wish the best of luck!
WOW how different that comment would have been. I mean really all you do is hate on MDC and rant on how unimportant past hard work has been. You should know how hard it is to get to where you are. You should be the one to be a little more sensitive to the people around you because YOU are already a nurse. In fact I praised your past hard worked, and I admired that you can serve as a perfect example of motivation. If someone wants something they will get it even if it is hard to get to it.
Anyway thank you for your warm wishes. My children appreciate it too. I have a family like everyone else...and I am working very hard. I will be a wonderful nurse. ALL my family is in the medical field, and I possess a lot of compassion, and love for those who are sick, and in need. My father has worked with Hospice patient since I was little, and from him I have learned that it takes a kind heart to be a good nurse.
I am sorry if perhaps I put my words in a harsh way, but please understand I worked hard to get into MDC, and to get to nursing school, and I like you had not one but two children along the way. I hope for the sake of my family, and myself that I make it to be a nurse, and I hope to be a wonderful nurse.
Perhaps I took it to heart, but there are different ways of saying that nursing is hard. Not that ALL my past hard work means nothing. I mean I worked hard to get where I am. I do not appreciate people telling me that all my past works means nothing. I am not bashing her I am simply defending where I am in life, and I am simply stating that I worked hard to get here. If I said it in a rash way I apologize, but it is true. She rants on and on and on on how MDC is worse than BCC and BCC , AND that nursing is so hard, and how people with all A's where getting "C's like the rest of them, and people with bachelor's failed. I just though that she could have stated that in a different way, and perhaps in doing that I too miscommunicated my words.
Butterflyyessy,
I too applied at MDC and found it very ridiculous becuase my friend got in my a very low GPA. I have had very bad experience with other schools too but I will not discourage anyone from trying. You have a point as well as others. GPA is important, however, sometimes the nursing courses cause the GPA to drop. Sometimes we are so obssessed with A's that we forget about applying what we have learned. I have seen this happens many times. Anyway, I wish you nothing but success and I hope you continue to do well in the nursing profession.
I just think GPA is important in the factor that it takes a lot of hard work to get a good GPA, but I sooo do not believe that a person with a low GPA would not make a good nurse. Above everything a nurse is someone with compassion, and heart. A person who wants to help. I just believe the only problem is the shortage of staff there is. I think it is sad that so many willing students are turned down from finishing their dreams, because of the circumstances which surround us. We are missing out on a lot of wonderful nurses, and a lot of dreams are being cut into pieces. I mean nursing programs are extremely competative. That is a shame.
Also,
How did it work out for you. I hear it depends on the applicants for MDC. From there they base it on the computer results which just depends on GPA. Believe it or not some programs are even MORE competative to get into. Perhaps that is why so many students are not passing the NCLEX. There are other factors to take into consideration when accepting students.
I also believe that it is because of the shortage of students, and many programs do not have a waiting list. Did you finally get into a program? How did it go for you?
It takes so much hard work to become a nurse. A lot of people get discouraged along the way. It is so sad that we have to bring other nurses from other countries, because our own students can not get into nursing, because the programs are to competative as the outcome of not having enough faculty to teach the prospective students. Is it not ironic?
I used to be soo obsessed with my GPA. I had a 3.8 when I applied at MDC, and know a lot who had 4.0 when they started but at the last semester it does not matter anymore. Most of us are just so happy to get a C and get out.
In nursing school a "C" means "Continue" and at the end you all gonna be called Nurses!
Amen...C=Continue. I have heard that a lot. GPA is what gets you into nursing school. After you get in...its just a matter of survival until graduation. GPA looses it importance around the end of the first semester as those final grades are being tallied.
If you do get good grades.....there is that feeling like you "survived another one"..."pulled it off another time"..."got lucky"....or just that "HOLY Crow...I did it!!" Well actually those are usually the sentiments each student has at the end of each semester.....A's..B's..or C's.
Tomorrow..I start my third semester at MDC. Specialty summer. Psych, OB then Peds. Hopefully in August...I'll have those positive end of semester sentiments.
