MDC Nursing Spring 2017

Published

Hi,

I just took the Hesi entrance exam last week and I am about to apply to Miami Dade College for the Spring 2017 generic full time program. The deadline is September 1 so I am sure there are more than a few people that have applied or are getting ready to apply. I have not seen a forum as yet for spring 2017. I would like to hear from people who are applying for spring 2017.

Yea 4 times in a two week period because the 2 ppd skin tests need to be done at least 7 days apart and then they need to be read within 48 hours. I was there for approximately 3 hours in the morning.

Thank you for all your help!

Does it open at 9 or 930? Online it says 930.

The clinic opens at 9am

Thankfully, I avoided the MDC clinic completely. I had my flu shot done at Walgreens. I had my drug screen, physical and PPD completed at MD Now urgent care in Plantation. I live in Davie so driving back and forth to the medical center around my crazy work schedule was not an option for me especially since the urgent care center closes at 8pm daily-very convenient. I am self-pay and it was affordable for me-I already had titers done for the LPN program that i was in back in 2012. Hope everything goes through smoothly for everyone!

I'll make sure to tell her this, thank you!

Hey, are you also from Jan 2016 AO? I have some friends in that group. How do you feel about the program, I feel like everyones over stressing nd stuff

I'm in the last semester of AO.

Yes. IT IS intense. But I honestly don't see myself doing any other program. The first semester was rough because we were taking 2 classes at once. Once you start summer, you begin your specialties and take 1 class at a time. Best advice is to find that group that you connect with and stick with them. You might have info that they don't have and vice versa.

Thank you so much! Will definitely do so if anything comes up.

Update: I went today to start all the immunizations. I got there a 9AM and there was not much of a line, got out of there by 1145 but they did everything already except for the TDAP and the Influenza shot. I do have a concern about the Hepatitis B and I'm not sure if anyone can help me. The Nurse Practioner on my case told me that the Hepatitis B is checked for during the titers, he told me that it is not part of the package and is an additional $70. I didn't get to double check this, but does anyone know if this is correct? I hope not because I have never gotten a shot for it and I don't want to have to spend more money on this.

Also TTLS, how much longer were you there for?

That sounds odd, the titers test for everything that we need, what it does sound like to me is if your titers come back and you're not immune to Hep B, you'll need the 3 shot vaccine series which will probably cost around $70. The thing is, while we all were vaccinated for Hep B, a large portion of people lose their immunity to it and will require another series of vaccinations.

This is what happened to me, so I went to the Miami Health Department and was given the series for free because of a program they had (they had excess Hep B shots). Then I had to go and another titers separately for Hep B and turned that in to prove I am immune.

I hope that for some miracle I am immune because he was explaining that if I wasn't I would have to wait another 6 weeks to re-do my titters and I wonder if that would make them consider me "non-compliant" and I would be backed up. Hopefully not!

Thanks for the information. Do you have to make an appt with the Miami Health Dept? Do they see walk ins? In the event I'm not immune and need vaccines for varicella etc I just might go there.
