StarN Residency -
Hello everyone, If anyone can tell me their personal experience with this program. So far what I've read are very negative reviews, and that kinda scares me but at the same time I know that most hospitals are for profit now around my area, as well. HCA doesn't seem like the best company to work for (According to reviews) but I'm starting to get desperate for money and have no experience and they are willing to train me so... It would be a 2 year contract compared to a bunch of 3 year contracts in my area. I know it mostly depends on the hospital and the environment but I just wanna see the feedback. Note that I am starting to run out of money and a guaranteed job for 2 years doesn't seem like the worst option.

Super discouraged
Yeah I understand. I just pictured post grad life a little different.

Super discouraged
Thank you for your encouraging words. I think we are in the same situation, I put enough money away but its starting to run out and I'm starting to get desperate. A couple of my friends got jobs but they had connections and have been forced to sign three year contracts. I just dont know anymore.

Super discouraged
Hello everyone, This is a very frustrating time. I wish more people spoke about how discouraging post grad life can be, especially as a new graduate RN where every hospital wants experience and the only hospital jobs willing to train a new RN want to take advantage of your vulnerable position. I have been officially looking for around 2 and a half weeks now and nothing seems to be leading up. I know I should have patience but its honestly so hard to keep a positive mind through this tough time. I feel like I'm at a HUGE disadvantage because: 1. I live in Miami (super saturated area) 2. I only have my ASN as of now, I already applied for BSN but its not a degree earned. 3. I have no experience hospital related (didnt work as support ever, have clerical experience) I thought of working home health while I wait because some experience is better than no experience but so many people say its not good for a new RN with no experience because my assessment skills are not great, but I'm gonna start to get desperate soon. I honestly feel so lost and discouraged and its driving me a little insane. If anyone can share their experience, have any words of encouragement (insight), or is in the struggle with me. Please comment down below, I would greatly appreciate it.

NCLEX Experience
Hello everyone, I just took my NCLEX on July 14th and passed with 75 questions. I want to share my story and resources to help others who feel discouraged or like they are not doing enough. I know when I was anxious I came onto this forum and read stories and they would alleviate some of my anxiety. So I graduated from my nursing program in May 2018 and scored in the 1100's in my Hesi Exit (I wouldnt be able to tell you the exact number, I forgot.) I started studying at the end of May, giving me a month and a half to prepare. I used Uworld, Mark Klimek audios, NCLEX Mastery, and the Saunders Hesi book. UWorld: I found UWorld to be very helpful. I scored in the 68th percentile out of 48th average. It teaches you a lot of material and can be overwhelming at times but just try to rationalize to the best of your abilities because the rationales are good. The NCLEX, in my experience, wasnt as wordy as UWorld; it just got straight to the point. Probably a month before my exam, I started doing 75 questions a day in test mode and timed to build endurance and mimic the NCLEX. I also bought the 2 self assessments that were in my opinion, easier than the NCLEX but still got you to that frame of thinking and taught you how to think critically like they want you to in the NCLEX. Mark Klimek audios: They were so resourceful, like he really broke down things well and eased a lot of my anxiety. I would highly recommend to take time to listen to these, write notes and review your notes throughly. I think he helped a lot honestly. Saunders book: I tackled the medical surgical part only but after I finished reading, I barely remember anything I read. It can be a bit overwhelming so I would suggest just using this book as a reference if UWorld didn't clarify well enough. The questions on here are a bit too easy honestly so dont go by them AT ALL. NCLEX Mastery: I purchased the pre and post test from them because there was a sale. It was the closest thing to the NCLEX I experienced honestly. As for the entire program, I couldnt tell you because I didn't do their program but content wise I think UWorld pretty much covers it all. I think NCLEX Mastery is more challenging because its so much more simple and to the point unlike UWorld. I feel like with UWorld, the wordiness helped with context clues but with NCLEX Mastery you didnt get many clues (but also there was less room for confusion, so I guess its you win some and you lose some, right?) All in all, don't fret. As long as you are doing your part, you will be fine. You have to trust in yourself and in your gut and the best advice I can give is DO NOT CHANGE YOUR ANSWERS. Cover as much as you can. Relax the day before the exam and just look over lab values, to sleep I drank tea and had a hot shower and went to bed early because my test was at Right now, the biggest monster you face is the NCLEX but I promise its not the monster everyone makes it out to be. Its a fairly simple test, do not complicate it for yourself or overthink because then you will be caught in a mess. Do not let your anxiety take over either, it is just a test. As someone with a lot of test anxiety, I can say firsthand that it really clouds my judgment and makes me second guess myself (worse thing you can do in nursing). You will know some topics but you probably won't know everything so just answer those to the best of your abilities. DONT freak out if your getting topics you dont know, answer as best as you can and move on. I wish everyone luck, you will make it through!

NCLEX July 2018
Hello everyone, Just took the exam. I got cut off at 75 questions. I used UWorld, the Mark Klimek audios, read some of Saunders and the NCLEX mastery Pretest and Posttest (they were having a sale). I just wanna give some words of comfort: the exam is not this big monster that everyone makes it out to be. I got there expecting not to know anything based off of others testimonies, but if youve studied: you will know things. Of course there will be things you dont know but that should be expected. I'm not sure if I passed yet or not but I did the PVT trick and I got the good pop up. Again, still not confirmed. I will probably have to wait until Monday unfortunately. If anyone has taken it on a Saturday, please let me know how long it took you guys to find out so I can be on the look out.

MDC Nursing Spring 2017
Hello Nursingst, I just registered and financial aid covered all my classes. I think if you have a previous bachelors degree, it won't cover.

I'm not really sure, I don't even know if to buy the books because I'm scared they will say that we need the access code or something of that sorts.

TTLS, you do get the CPR class if you registered ahead of time. There were some people in our class that didn't receive it because they had registered the day before or a couple days before so they had to pick it up another day.

Thank you lokedoutlulu! Unfortunately my insurance wouldn't cover it for a third party request. But maybe this will help someone else!
