MDC Nursing Spring 2017

Published

Hi,

I just took the Hesi entrance exam last week and I am about to apply to Miami Dade College for the Spring 2017 generic full time program. The deadline is September 1 so I am sure there are more than a few people that have applied or are getting ready to apply. I have not seen a forum as yet for spring 2017. I would like to hear from people who are applying for spring 2017.

Also TTLS, how much longer were you there for?
Hi Jessmarie, I wasn't there very long actually. Unfortunately, they claim my ppd is positive so I need to do an xray. Regarding the vaccines don't worry. If the titers show that you are not immune to something then you will have to get the relevant vaccine(s). I think they make you temporarily compliant once you get the shot (s) and submit paperwork saying so.

If you do happen to have no immunity then you'd have to do the 3 shot immunity series, but at that point you can tell the nursing department you're in the process of doing your 3 shot series and you can apply for an exception and can continue normally, while turning in proof of your vaccinations thereafter.

@TTLS

For the Miami Health Department you definitely need to make an appointment, they're very particular on that. To make things worse, it was a PAIN to get someone to talk to me on the phone to make the appointment, their line is almost always busy. Keep persisting, and don't expect it to be free, I was lucky because there was a program going on, I hope the same will apply for you.

I have some books and a pair of green pants brand new, gor sale, let me know if you are interested

Does that mean you have to go back again?

Good! I just want to be compliant by orientation so I could pick my classes already.

I don't have to do a second ppd but I scheduled the X-ray. The X-ray place is close to the college I'm told.

Hi everyone!

just wanted to update: if you guys have insurance, don't count that out! I have a rather decent insurance, and I am able to get all the vaccines at the health clinic at Walgreens for a $0 co-pay. They do not offer drug screens, however I spoke with MD UrgentCare Now, and they will do it for $50. Walgreens clinics don't have large wait times (usually) and its a little more convo ident to find one close to you if you end up having to go several times for titers. Just do your research if you are tight on cash because it makes a huge difference.

Thank you lokedoutlulu! Unfortunately my insurance wouldn't cover it for a third party request. But maybe this will help someone else!

Specializes in ICU CCRN.

Yes. Definitely do your shopping before you go. But the clinic has been great since I am in the program full time, not working and cash is tight.

Also another thing: Make sure when doing your background check, you input the right SSN. Something happened with mine and I had to pay $30 extra ("state fee") and resubmit it.

hey guys I'm curious did anyone get accepted to the Generic full time that has a science GPA of 3.5 or lower

Hey have you gotten an email yet? I still haven't :/

Maybe call MDC to see if they are still sending out letters?

They send it to your MDC email.

Yeah I check my mdc email (including spam) everyday and they still haven't sent anything. I don't know when the next batch was going to be released. Maybe I'll call tomorrow and ask because this is getting a bit frustrating now lol
