MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

Hello, everyone! What a crazy few days with orientation (accelerated) and trying to get various things resolved...

But now to something that is probably on everyone's mind: costs. After getting the list of required textbooks and supplies, costs are rising rapidly! I put together a list of all costs from start to finish (this is a first draft, so, people, please add if I forgot something )

Tuition (the biggest) - $5200

Books and office supplies - $1000 (this one can vary, depending on how many used books you can find, but I pretty much just plugged in new book prices from various online sources like ebay and amazon)

Nursing supplies - $350 (includes full uniform-120, shoes-50, nursing kit-100, stethoscope-80)

Pre-admission costs - $300 (things like CPR class, blood tests, vaccines, background check; this may be much higher if you need more vaccines)

NCLEX registration - $200

NCLEX review books - $200

Total - $7250 (+/- a few hundred, depending on many of the factors listed above)

Also, for books, there are a ton of extra study guides (both for classes and NCLEX) that may help, so budget another $200 if you think you will be getting a few of those.

I know finances are a pain to worry about, but I hope this helps some people in budgeting

:eek::eek::eek: Ahhh!

Thank you SOOOO much for this! I am going to make a copy of this and put it on the full time thread for future reference!!!! :)

Hey LC2012 last post made me curious, can anyone who got accepted this fall post attachments or add in a list the supply list, books, etc that we need for the program? any specifics would help.

I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Yes, making sure you have everything done needs lots of organization! :uhoh3: I copied this from excel (which didn't copy so well, but the data is there)

Here are all the "pre-classes" costs for just about everything except tuition. Note that your costs will vary significantly for the titers and vaccines depending of what insurance benefits you have. I listed all the best retail prices that I found (mostly from this board). I think you can also get free or discounted vaccines from a public health clinic, but I haven't verified that.

The books for the remaining semesters are much less (around 280-300, total). And also budget for some extra study guides, office supplies, etc (which I estimate to be another 300-400). Oh, and the book prices are for new books mostly from amazon or ebay, so if you look harder, you can probably save more by buying used.

If someone notices anything missing, please add!

Yep. I got it a while back lol and then after that I've heard students say its a waste of money, you don't have time to go through it, etc. I guess I could keep it just in case but if anyone wants to buy it.... I'm your girl : )

For those of you guys who already went to orientation, what was the registration process like? Did they assign you your classes or were you able to register online like before?

So for the A/O. We received a survey in our email the week before orientation where we had to rank our choice of clinicals... By Monday at orientation, we were told that we were already registered for the fall term and that they tried to give everyone their first choice and they went by the time stamp of when we submitted the survey. Some people didn't check their email in time and were placed automatically. So shirt answer.... The registered for us.

I know this is pretty ignorant, but what are 'clinicals'? Is that where we intern at hospitals and do we have to apply like a job with references, job history, and all that (I don't have any experience in health care)? Thanks

Thank you so much for the info!:):yeah:

I check my email at least 5 times a day :lol2: but haven't received that yet. Do you remember what day they sent it...was it Friday before orientation?

I'm so excited it's only a few days away! :clpty:
