Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
I seriously feel like calling the President of MDC, the Dean of Nursing, and anyone else who will listen!! Maybe Help Me Howard can help!! This is really not right though..I too knew about this new selection but couldn't apply because I was still taking MAC1105..and now that group of applicants is starting in August anyway!!! Not fair guys..not fair
Unfortunately, it's true. there are students who had low gpas and teas score that got in to the part time program. I went today to the medical campus for advisment and asked her about that because i too read that post of the student who got accepted with those scores. and she told me that for some reason administrators are doing selections for the generic part time differently. it has something to do with last semester, where they supposbly tried doing an offer of part time in spring but due to budget cuts it didnt go through, but since some students had been "accepted" then, they were guranteed a spot for this fall. Which means it eliminated a lot of spots for new applicants. The advisor was confused herself when she looked at the list, because she too thought it was the 60/40 system and didnt understand how those students who had low scores were accepted before others, but she said she doesnt know the full reasoning because administators have kept to themselves about it. She said they have "jumped around" with selectionsit's not so much in order due to that issue that occurred.
I was so disappointed to hear that, but thats what the advisor told me. and she said not to lose hope, everyone will have an answer by the end of July.
So good luck to us all who are still waiting.
Hi Faith! When you went today did the advisor actually see the lower scores of the other applicants that got accepted??
I don't want to take away the opportunity from someone else I just think things should be fair.P.S. Sorry if I sound a little hostile :/
I encourage you to investigate not only to get justice for yourself but for others to follow. You will NOT be taking away anyone else's spot as the whole process is supposed to be totally objective (ie 60/40). If someone else with a lower score was accepted, then it means they took your spot or more correctly: MDC mistakenly gave them the spot. Yes, there is the very rare instance in which two students on the exact cut-off might be further scrutinized by hsc0003, micro lab, etc. But remember, that is for only a couple of people out of hundreds!
There is something very fishy going on because MDC is a publicly funded institution and is required to be transparent and open just like they have to in employment selection. Every time I tried to find out more exact details about the 60/40 process, they shut me down. I sent you a couple of private messages because I'm afraid of retaliation within MDC. Please let us know what you find out as it will help people in the future too.

MDCdream,
she did see it, she left me at her desk for like 10 mins to go in the back and make sure my applications was in the system and the list. Unfortunately she couldnt/didnt tell me where i stood but when i asked her about the low scores that got in she said that she knows about it because she has looked at the list and was so confused to see those people got accepted when there are other applications she saw that had higher scores.

I agree something isn't right, and everytime i tried getting answers they would shut me out and claim they didn't know anything.
It's ridiculous...
I read that comment he posted too. There is no way those scores are accurate! I'm gonna PM you.
Maybe he told you his overall GPA, but had really great science grades. The selection criteria is based on the TEAS scores and the natural science GPA. Those TEAS scores seem very low to me. It would be very very unfair since I know people with better scores and GPAs who still havent gotten in yet.
To those of us still waiting, the fact that someone with a lower score and GPA got in, really isn't fair. Kerima, I understand what you mean as well, but the fact is that the TEAS score counts a lot more for your overall score so even with a good SCIENCE GPA, there are still others with higher TEAS scores and GPA's that haven't gotten in that should have.
Something strange is going on at MDC and they refuse to answer questions directly. What I wish they would do is tell us how many spots they have remaining because it's about a week until full time's orientation and from what those who have gotten accepted have been saying, you need to have your background check and vaccinations done by then. A week really isn't enough time to have all this done, even though I suppose that you could have done it ahead of time, just in case, but still.
I don't think it's that much of a big deal to just tell us how many spots are left since that will gives us a more or less idea of what we're gonna do if we don't get accepted. I don't think it's right to have us freak out for weeks whether we got in or not and every time one of us calls they tell us the same exact thing, that we have to wait for the emails.

even if it was his overall grade, it still doesnt mean that they had all high grades if they averaged out to be low. Unfortuntately a lot of it has to do with that situation that occurred in spring.

Coren, to you and all the other haters who apparently through their words claim 'it isn't fair,' let me tell you that life itself isn't fair. So deal with it. If you're in, I'm happy for you because we'll be in nursing school together and it'll be fun. If not, keep trying. This to me is a dream and I have worked hard to get here... without any help and paying for school myself. Don't judge a book by its cover.
So you all know, I have hell of grades and had gotten accepted last year but then they took me out the program because MAC 1105 kicked in in the pre-requisites and I had to take it- like someone earlier mention on the post. Nursing isn't about getting in or making the money afterwards. It is about dedication, persistence, responsibility and caring for others. Read and listen, I met the criteria and like many of you I've also been worried to get in until it finally happened. So, yes, good for me! Sorry for those who didn't get in. If you want to go for nursing because it's in you, then I encourage you to continue fighting for what you want and do it.

preach it! i am still waiting but if i dont get in i will apply again and other schools..it seems like mdc is not organized..they say they sent out first round acceptances but there is still more to come. How is that going to work out when orientation is next week for accelerated and one week after f/t. And you must have your vaccines and everything else done from what i've heard. nursing is getting more competitive ppl see the dollar signs not the caring aspect anymore.but it is what it is.good luck to all!
