MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

You better believe it total bella! At my hospital they hire them very fast. They're like, did you graduate from MDC? Okay, you start next Monday. And you, you said you graduated from UM? We'll let you know. In the meantime, find ways to pay that loan you still owe them.

MDC is the way bella. Love what you do-Blackberry motto. Get paid-Lil Wayne. Do both-Me!

On bagels wings! I'm just messing with you. Listen, or better yet, read. As for the Fundamentals of Nursing, we'll be using the 7th edition. ______the bookstore. I got my boy Craigslist hooking me up. I'm like the dudes on the music videos with the t-shirts, I got it for cheap. Try either that or my Brazilian friend Amazon. People are always buying used! Besides, everyone one of us won't be needing books post nursing graduation. What?! You think I'm going to build up a library with all the books I've gotten throughout all these years? _____ no! Now you see what the first blank means...

To coren. First, I'd like to address you as Korey. It sounds cooler

Be optimistic and do whatever it takes to get on their faces and let them up what's up. Get your instincts out and show them who's boss. You need to be heard. You've fought very hard with your education and deserve a spot. Listen, I want to see you on orientation day; do whatever it takes to be there. I pretty much know the school system like the palm of my hand since I've been screwed many times, lied, deceived, betrayed and what not for so long.

Don't let them run over you. Find a spot. Don't literally fall asleep. See if there's a girl pregnant or someone who tested positive on the drug test. I've heard it before so it isn't surprising. This is Dade. Everything goes down up in here, cuz!

Coren, I wish you the best and don't let anybody tell you you can't do something, not even me ( I got that from the pursuit of happiness movie).

Keep me posted...Korey. :twocents:

Hi yisy4u. Let me guess: yessi for u? or yessi for me???

hahahaha.... I'm very glad you've scored high on your TEAS. It was hard, wasn't it? Tell me about it. I scored...nevermind.

So did you get in???

Funny you've bought the stethescope (I could have used check spelling to correct that but refused to) already. Great! One worry less. By the way, we're the same age!!!

Best of the best for you in your nursing path. I'd love to do it along your side

Has anyone here had carpel tunnel surgery, or know someone who has? I have to have surgery on my right hand and I'm really nervous! I'm scheduled for a July 22 surgery (tried to make it after orientation so that I can write and use my hand during orientation), and hope that gives me enough time to recover before classes start. Does anyone have any experience with this? It's the only time I could do this and I'm scared that I won't be able to take notes by the time classes start, but I can't write very well now so I guess that I have to have it anyways! Btw, when do classes begin? Any idea?

you can get several colors. i for one like the lavender color  or the seafoam green... i also heard its a good idea to get a diff. color... they have red, blue, green, even light pink and orange...

I just ordered my stethoscope! I'm so excited! lol I feel like a little kid. I got it in plum and the engraving was free - I read sooo many posts on what kind to get. It's really confusing - should you get one that will do for now, or invest, if possible, on one that will last you (hopefully) for many years to come? I have been saving so I figured, I want to get one that I can hear the best possible and will last me for a long time, so I invested in one of the cardio ones. Hopefully, it will be ok. There were only 6 left in stock, so I went ahead and purchased it.

I'm also shopping for the white scrub pants - trying to get the ones with the most pockets (cargo style). Anyone find really good ones? Shoe shopping is next (all white right?). Oh, and the compression stockings, too. I wonder which is better, all the way up stockings, knee length, or thigh highs? Silly, but getting advice from someone who actually wears them or has worn them is important. I also figure, this way I shop slowly and don't have to hit my pocketbook all at once! I'm definitely not looking forward to the book costs - I love the books, but they are so expensive:eek: Sorry, I'm nervous and excited and all over the place! lol:uhoh3:

Can you share how much it cost you? And what the typical price ranges are between one that will "just do" and one that will last for years?

Also, here's a dumb question: compression stockings aren't a requirement are they? :uhoh3:

ROFL not that they could check if you have them on or not! But no, it was my suggestion!! We are all youngsters here and we don't need varicose veins anytime now. :clown:

Pixiemom I can't wait to get my pretty steth :p As for uniform bottoms, I would check an actual uniform shoppe. I don't know where you live but I know of one by "la calle ocho" lol and another one in Kendall on 117ave. They have a pretty good selection. I LOVE the "grey's anatomy" scrubs material. SO SOFT! The "koi" lab coats are also really feminine.

For the socks, I have friends who due to circulation issues use the actual stockings. I would figure this would be less annoying. I wear knee socks all the time and sometimes they can be uncomfortable after a few hours. My friend's wife told me to get one and try it out before getting another pair. That way you can get used to them. She suggested to get the least tight one. Her husband uses a super tight one. Like we could maybe get the one that says "8-15 mmHg".

The Medical Campus book store has shoes. They are plain and look super professional and nice, I just haven't tried them myself. I loved my white Nike's but they are just so banged up. I hate shoe shopping  I went to Sears, JcPenny, and Macy's yesterday(Int. Mall) and couldn't find anything I liked.... SIGH!

OH and I really like zappos.com. They have an amazing selection of shoes!! I am totally picky. I have chubby baby feet :( and so I need something nice and wide. I hate laces... I'm a crocs/vans slip on girl. But I need lots of support for my arches too! Pickypickypicky

These are some I am considering...:

ZeppHead8,

I went on that website medisave.com and compared prices with other sites and it was really worth it because medisave engraves for free. As far as price, I really, really read a lot on different sites and boards and found that the nurses really like the littmann cardiology III which is about $140.00 (this is the one I got). That's an investment, I know, but it's dual tubing, so it's clearer sounding, and it's "tunable" which lets you hear low and high sounds depending how hard you press on it. (I'm repeating what I read so many times - it's not that I'm actually understanding all of it just yet;)). I didn't find any littmann's with dual tubing that were less than that, but, of course, there were some nice ones that were the single tube that were in the $80's and $90's. Like I said, I went with what I read on nursing sites. There are other brands of stethoscopes, but I really didn't see any mentioned, to tell the truth. I hope that helps some :).

I like your sense of humor piximom. It's naturale :specs: Moreover, it's great to know the stethoscope most nurses use and at the price you mentioned... well, that's great since they're paying for my tuition; not me. Littman it is then!

Well, hope to see ya at school next year! Good luck to you too. :D
