Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
For all of you that got picked, try and study in groups and please do not worry about no shortages and how will you get in. By the time you are done, everything (economy) is different than when your started so do not let rumors discourage you from completing your career endeavors. If you follow the career path that it is in your heart, you do what you love and love what you are doing everyday of your life, you will be successfull and happy. Whats the point of doing a job and being miserable just because $$ is there. I make decent $$ and I hate my job because it is not in tune with what I love. Don't get me wrong, making good money is important, but more importantly is doing what you love, because the rest, even money, will follow.
Congrats and yes. A friend of mine that is an RN said she could not have survived without it. Expensive but convenient. Did you see this post.

yisi4u, I also took it twice and ended up with an 82 and have a 4.0 GPA. I got accepted to all 3 in fall (I chose the generic) so you should definitely not worry about getting in with your scores! See you in Jan!!Woohoo
OMG!!! You have made me so happy!!!!!!!!! :lol2:
Thank you....
I'm in a great Mood!!! :heartbeat :redbeathe
Hi all!
Congratulations on getting accepted into the program!!! It's going to be a very intense but exciting year for you!
The first semester is really tough but as long as you find a good group to work with and good study habits - you will be just fine. I recommend doing tons of questions. Some students would buy a second book called Review & Rationales for Med-Surg/Fundamentals/etc, which is actually very useful as it really breaks down each chapter/disease and includes NCLEX style questions.
Do NOT waste your money on the Curriculum. Everyone will tell you that you have to buy it. However, I never bought it and have yet to need it. Also, you can buy your white scrub pants and lab coat from any location. Only the MDC scrub shirt needs to be purchased at the bookstore.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try my best to answer them.
Good luck! =)
Does anyone know if we will need/use a PDA during ns? What about anything else we will need that we can be getting now? I know that we will find out in orientation on the 18th, but I'm getting so antsy, I just want to see if someone out there has an "in" with senior or graduate nursing students and knows about things that may not be mentioned at orientation, but were really useful during school. I already watched the nursing school videos on youtube and read the thread here at allnurses about useful things to get for ns (but that was from 2005 - we could use an update)....This is almost as bad as waiting for my daughter to be born! I remember just looking at her baby clothes in the drawer and folding and unfolding the clothes! lol I just want to begin getting "stuff" that I can look at and begin to organize. I know - what a child - but I'm currently a victim of my own emotions!
I was thinking maybe getting an ipod touch just for nursing apps to use in clinical. I have an ipod for my music and other doodads but I hear its useful to carry an ipod touch when looking up dx and meds. Its an investment for me... I'm a cheap skate... but its worth looking into. If there is only one gadget to get for NS its that. But the app I want to like $150 or so. Its called Nursing Central by Unbound Medicine. It has Taber's dictionary, Diseases & Diagnosis, Davis' Drug Guide, and some other helpful junk lol
Ummm ok sounds obvious but if you don't have a big book shelf get one now LOL! A white second-hand watch, w/ military time if you can find one. Simplifies your life. As for steths... I have a Prestige Clinical 1 in Stealth black. LOVE IT! But for NS I might convert to Littmann steths, like the lightweight. And get it engraved with my name or something so no one can "borrow it"....
Get white compression hose. I'm serious! This you MUST splurge on or you will pay for it after clinicals... I have really bad orthopedic problems and I will not risk it....
Anyway, if I think of anything else I will let you know :)

This is the thread that I was referring to in my post. The thread was posted on here by one of the members and is an awesome list of things to get, but it is from 2005. Maybe we can share any updates?
