MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

That's what all the advisors kept saying, but you never know with dade... :/

Hi Guys,

I've been reading what many threads on here are saying and I'm wondering what you guys feel about it. I am reading everywhere that there is no shortage in new grad nurses and that we may wait a couple of years to get a job. Seeing that this is a national site, do you think this info applies to FL nursing grads?

I've heard that MDC grads are sought after because the nursing program is better than local University programs. A friend of mine that is a MDC RN grad from about 7 years ago, said the same.

I don't know, I was just reading up on this and thought, "What does everyone here know and feel about this info?". Maybe we can share some info with eachother that can eventually help us all out in getting the job when we graduate :o

Dade is slow about everything..give them a few days more, just in case!

Apparently very slow. So, I just called because my nerves are starting to make me a tad bit crazy and they said that we can expect all letter in the 2nd to 3rd week of July. However, I think she misunderstood me a little and thought I was asking when the last day to accept was and she said July 6. I don't wanna be a Negative Nancy but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say rejection letters are the next things to be sent out and if after today you haven't gotten yours then you're not gonna be accepted. Hurts to think about.

I was just thinking that if today is the last day of acceptance emails, then the July 6 date is the deadline for a response. After the deadline, wouldn't they have to once again go through the waiting list and fill in the seats that people declined in their response forms on July 6? It seems to me that yes, they will still be sending out acceptance letters during the early part of July. I don't know, but it seems to me that there will be more acceptance emails going out after today. Don't lose hope as it seems that there are still opportunities to get a seat. Hang in there even though I know it's really hard.

If she said the last day to accept is July 6 that probably means if there are people who don't accept by then they will be sending out another batch of acceptance emails. Hopefully everyone on here gets in! :D

Hey tanabella -

I have had the same questions in mind for a while now. Even though there is a shortage of nurses, there may be a shortage of positions because so many nurses are choosing to either stay longer past usual retirement, or are coming out the retirement because of the economy. I would like some thoughts too, but at the same time I don't want to dwell on it because, maybe, by the time we graduate, the situation will have changed for the better. That's why we have to network when we are in school - go out of our way to make connections. I know that I will have to be conscious of deliberately doing this as I am rather shy - but shyness is something that we cannot afford. Making those connections may make all of the difference in the world when we begin searching for those jobs.

One thing I suggest is after our second or third semester, we should start looking for PCT/CNA jobs. I think it would be worth it to get our foot in the door early. I am sure that with the opening of the new Baptist hospital there are bound to be open positions for PCTs or nurse techs.

For the most part, I am willing to relocate if Miami becomes a problem. No use worrying about that now. I am trying to take it a day at a time... we worked hard to get into NS.... we need to concentrate on getting THROUGH NS now.... thennn we will worry about working hard to get jobs lol.

Zepphead,

you said, "I ended up taking the Micro lecture and lab together. It was my last prereq to get done so I figured why not knock them out together? You have to complete it eventually anyway so now it's one less thing to worry about!

If you like I can send you the name of my professor and tell you a little bit about him 80)"

Yep, I'm interested to know your micro lab professor's name.

PM me or if somehow you can get the info to me, it would be wonderful.

THANKS

fem (accepted MDC Fall 2011 - part time)

Does anyone know if we will need/use a PDA during ns? What about anything else we will need that we can be getting now? I know that we will find out in orientation on the 18th, but I'm getting so antsy, I just want to see if someone out there has an "in" with senior or graduate nursing students and knows about things that may not be mentioned at orientation, but were really useful during school. I already watched the nursing school videos on youtube and read the thread here at allnurses about useful things to get for ns (but that was from 2005 - we could use an update)....This is almost as bad as waiting for my daughter to be born! I remember just looking at her baby clothes in the drawer and folding and unfolding the clothes! lol I just want to begin getting "stuff" that I can look at and begin to organize. I know - what a child - but I'm currently a victim of my own emotions! :lol2:

Hi PixieMom: I am new here and try and post when I can. Yesterday I went to MDC Medical because I have not heard anything back from them regarding my application to the LPN program. They advised they have been swamped with paperwork and the LPN packages have not even started to go out. They are still placing people in the RN programs and some people that applied for the RN also applied for LPN. I asked how long do I have to wait before everyone is placed and she advised, by July 15th, I would know the final results. I told them that I am registered for fall classes and they need to be paid by July 13th what should I do and they advised to wait for the email if I can. In summary, it will be cutting it close if we get picked to have all your requirements done by Aug 1st. Try and get a CPR class done if possible. Good Luck to ALL!

GMarie7 - Thank you for your response. I am taking the BLS/CPR on 7/9 as per requirements for ns - I did get accepted into the generic full time RN program and was wondering about specific items that helped in nursing school. Especially if anyone knows, for example, if we will need or use a PDA? I would like to begin shopping around and take advantage of the time.

Has anyone heard about stuff like shoes, stethescopes, etc? I know we have to wait for orientation for most of our supply list, but it would be really cool if we can begin getting ideas now.
