Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
Has anyone here had carpel tunnel surgery, or know someone who has? I have to have surgery on my right hand and I'm really nervous! I'm scheduled for a July 22 surgery (tried to make it after orientation so that I can write and use my hand during orientation), and hope that gives me enough time to recover before classes start. Does anyone have any experience with this? It's the only time I could do this and I'm scared that I won't be able to take notes by the time classes start, but I can't write very well now so I guess that I have to have it anyways! Btw, when do classes begin? Any idea?
Pixiemom: I had the surgery in both hands already. Your surgery should be outpatient and go home the same day with pain killers for the 1st couple of days. If you are R-Handed, start writing with your left now and practice, practice, because it will be a challenge if you wait till surgery day to figure out how to even write your name with your L-Hand. Remember to do your post surgery therapy. This therapy will expedite your recovery. Even if it hurts, do the exercises they ask you to do and do them at home also. Recovery was about 3-4 weeks to begin using a pen. But being able to open a jar took a little longer. Good Luck in your Surgery!
Hey everyone... I do not have antibodies for measles or mumps! I am getting re-vaccinated on Thursday, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this will be acceptable? Technically, I had the titers, but I obviously want to be immune to these diseases before clinicals start.
I also was wondering how nice of a stethoscope we need. I have a very simple stethoscope and sphygmomanometer that didn't even cost $100 as a set. I'm thinking I probably need a new set?
Lazgon- Classes are supposed to start August 22nd.
Pixie- I've observed a carpal tunnel surgery before, and it is one of the simplest surgeries I have ever seen! Keep to your physical therapy, or you could end up with scar tissue and neurological symptoms all over again.
On Eagles- I have the sketchers shoes you posted. They are wonderful casual shoes, but I wouldn't dream of trying to work on my feet all day in them. The cushioning in them gave very quickly. Also, the width fit me well (I have VERY narrow feet).
To MDCdream: what type of service(s) did you receive at that place?
I made some mistakes, so don't necessarily follow what I did. In hindsight I think it would have been cheaper in total if I had found one urgent care type place that did everything. I don't have insurance and thought I would save money by piecemealing everything - but I think I was wrong because I am going to be paying over the $220 (?) someone had previously mentioned a doctor would do.
First I went to Miami-Dade County health to get the MMR and varicella innoculation. Then I found out that was a waste because I had to get the titers anyways. I did those and the drug test through econoLabs. Then today I found out that they give the TB test ($28) at Walgreens (only the ones with the clinics). I was paranoid because I didn't think a doctor or nurse would sign off since my results are all from different places. But the nurse practitioner said she would do the sign off if I bring in all the other lab forms. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
The only thing I never heard back from was the fingerprinting place. I'm hoping they somehow communicate directly with MDC, otherwise I'll have to do that over.
P.S. Salutations, I'm sure it will not be a problem. Since you are getting the immunization, I'm not even sure they will make you do the titer again. I've heard other people say they went to orientation with some steps not completed but they let it slide because it was still in progress.
Hi PixieMom: I am new here and try and post when I can. Yesterday I went to MDC Medical because I have not heard anything back from them regarding my application to the LPN program. They advised they have been swamped with paperwork and the LPN packages have not even started to go out. They are still placing people in the RN programs and some people that applied for the RN also applied for LPN. I asked how long do I have to wait before everyone is placed and she advised, by July 15th, I would know the final results. I told them that I am registered for fall classes and they need to be paid by July 13th what should I do and they advised to wait for the email if I can. In summary, it will be cutting it close if we get picked to have all your requirements done by Aug 1st. Try and get a CPR class done if possible. Good Luck to ALL!
You can usually get an extension at MDC to pay for your classes. I did it at Wolfson campus last semester. Call the Dean's office and they can authorize the extension over the phone without you having to drive there. Then you won't have to worry about the deadline for now. Hope that helps! :)
Hey everyone... I do not have antibodies for measles or mumps! I am getting re-vaccinated on Thursday, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this will be acceptable? Technically, I had the titers, but I obviously want to be immune to these diseases before clinicals start.
I had to get re-vaccinated too. I went to the nursing dep't a couple weeks ago about that and they said I would have to get another titer to make sure I am immune this time. The doctor said I have to wait a month from the vaccination to let the antibodies build up. I'm sure it'll be fine as long as we get the titer results to them before school starts...or clinicals. :)
I've been so busy with work and junk at home I haven't really been on the ball -_-
I have to get my second TB, haven't even gotten by drug test. Probably I am going to go Friday and get those two things done....
Then maybe next week, God Willing, I am going to get my last titers. How stressful! :S
To Fcat: first and foremost, I remember I hated the FCAT and that's what just came into my 'never sleeping mind' when I saw your username.Anyway, yes, keep your hopes up. As far as what movements you're making, who knows. My advice is go talk to this lady I know by the name of Violeta Oliver-Figuly. She's a chairperson of nursing and she should give you valuable information about your status.
Also, try going to advisement and insist in talking to Mrs. Hernandes, the director. They will tell you to wait if you don't have an appointment. Just wait. I waited for almost three hours. I even made friends while waiting. In fact, I... not AWOL work, but left regardless the amount of work we had. First things first, right? I understand you because I felt like that too: a little bit nervous, upset, disappointed and whatever else there is.
Keep me posted and I wish the very best!!!
When I was doing the Fcat, my husband at that time my boyfriend found our cat, and we were looking for names, and since I was going crazy with Fcat in school, and I used to talk about it all the time he decided to name our cat Fcat LOL!!!Well thank very much for all the info. But right now I am out of the country, and I will be back on the 15th, so I will probably go to MDC when I get back, hopefully it won be too late. But anyway thank you for the info.
I haven't received anything from MDC, not even a rejection letter, I am starting to worry about especially because I am out of the country, and it is very expensive to call. Can anyone tell me if I call the medical campus they will be able to tell me in what position I am, meaning that if I got accepted, just didnt happen to receive anything or if I will be getting my rejection letter soon, I am very worried. Did anyone received any rejection letters/emails???

Hello all future nurses! Does anyone know when the classes begin for the fall generic full time program. I know the orientation is the July 18 but not when the classes start. Thanks.
