Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
This is potentially a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. What are the physical exam and immunization requirements for the program? I know they also require a Federal background check and CPR certification, do we have to get each from a specific organization?
Its not a dumb question! lol.
I've attached the forms for your use. I just realized I could do this. That way I won't have to email it. The actual physical is on the last page. The others are about the immunizations/titers.
The Fed background has to be done at the MDC School of Justice. When you get accepted, you have to make an appointment with them online as a med campus student or something. Its like $45. CPR you can get at the Red Cross or with MDC Continuing Education. http://www.mdc.edu/ce/
Hope this helps :)
Is that a credit course? I had thought about it, but I figure I will definitely take it in the fall if I don't make it into or am not able to start the Fall Nursing program. I'd be interested to hear more about it once you start it!
It's actually a non-credit course. I will update you after summer classes start to let you know how it's going.
And for On Eagles Wings, thank you for all of those forms!
I agree with yall... i thoughts the same when she said july- mid august. And I asked her would that be enough time to get all the paperwork done; she said it will be a week or two weeks to get thing done.
IDK now, if other advisor told other student other info that counteract each other, IDK who to believe then
I sure hope so! I'm taking the HSC0003 course over summer, I know it's not required yet but since it will be next year I thought it would be a good idea to take it now...just in case. I'm taking it wednesday nights at the medical campus. Is anyone else taking it this summer too?
I'm taking it this summer too. I'm appling to both RN and LPN. I'm taking it for the LPN cus its need. I"m taking it MW morning
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE
Hopefully the letters do go out b4 august
I can't believe I only just found out about this forum. There is some great info in here which I really appreciate.
1. I was wondering about the start date too. I called MDC and asked if Nursing academic calendar is the same as the rest of the college (starting Aug 22), but no one seemed to know.
2. Does the CPR have the be the health care provider class or can it be the generic one?
3. I wish they didn't start using the TEAS. I did well on it just because I know test tricks. But my actual knowledge of the sciences is not good. There are people who probably won't make it and would make better nurses. Just like how they do those 72hr shifts in residency for doctors and weed out people who would probably be the most loving doctors. Just a pet peeve.
4. Wow, thanks to the person who downloaded the PDF's. I was asking advisement today about how to be prepared, but they said just wait for the packet. But as people have pointed out that is cutting it close. If I am accepted, I'm definitely not prepared academically and would like to start reviewing the actual books we will be using.
5. Since the deadline is over, I guess it doesn't matter. But the most important tip I could give on the TEAS is to use the ATI book alone. I had other books (which I lazily never even read), but from what I saw the actual test was very much like the ATI book and the online practices. Again, in my opinion it is more about test taking tricks and not much to do with nursing potential at all.
6. If anyone has any insider tips please share them. I keep trying to find out different loopholes, fine print, etc from advising. Yet almost every time I find something out, it is later contradicted by someone else. Plus, what is the oversight of the selection committee? I tried to find out if there is an appeals process if we are rejected, but they said no. But since it is a public institution, can't we ask for documentation to confirm there was no discrimination? It would be good to see the final list to know exactly why we weren't picked.
I was accepted last year and due to stupid financial circumstances could not attend. I received my packet on June 23(or 24), 2010.
And really it didn't take me a week to get everything done, lol. I had to chase down my pediatrician to get my medical info and all that. But it might help to make a an appt. with your PCP now for the physical, to get it some time in late May or early June.
The CPR class must be "Basic Life Support" which includes AED, Heimlich maneuver for child, adult, and pregnant women, and CPR on babes, adults, and pregnant women. I think it also includes other little stuff. Its like a 6 hour class.
As for books, that depends. I am going to read up on my Anatomy and Physiology. I never memorized the cranial nerves or the arteries/veins(my labs were slack) and I want to learn all I can for phys!
I'm also going to go over the nursing process and go over nursing math again. Simple stuff. I bought shoes for nursing school last year, but I am going to get another pair soon. Stock up on white socks. Lol. Things like that.
Also, I took HSC0003 this past spring if anyone has any questions about it just PM me I also had a really good teacher if anyone is interested in their name PM me =)
I just signed up for the CPR with continuing education for August but it doesn't seem that my financial aid covers it...don't understand why though, maybe b/c it is not a credit class?? Anyway it stinks it doesn't the class is 69.00!! This is my 3rd time being certified and I have never had to pay for it cause it has been through employers...isn't $69 a lot of money?? anyone know anywhere that offers it cheaper?
Yup I signed up for one in August after I am done with my summer classes at medical campus...unless I find somewhere cheaper...?? If I don't get in for Fall I think it will be good for atleast a year anyways.
You have to get the reference number through the Community Education page and then use it in the registration menu
