MDC Fall 2011 =)

Published

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

we have all the same classes except for clinicals

I agree so strongly with this. I bought ACT prep books and took all 3 of the MDC TEAS prep courses and none of that material was even 1/10 as valuable as what was in the TEAS book and online practice. If I had it over to do again, I would focus only on the prep materials that come directly from ATI.

I'm sure the prep classes offered through MDC will improve over time. But because the TEAS is so new, when I took the classes, the instructors didn't even seem to know much about the actual test. Consequently the material they covered was not all relevant.

Thank you Very much for the advice, I will definitely focus on the ati book and nothing else, and hope that will help me get a better grade this time around. Good luck to all of us trying spring semester!!!!

Hello All Homestead Generic full timers

I have started a thread for just Homestead is probably in the first 5 pages somewhere in there so please let yourself be known. I think it would be cool to start introducing ourselves. Thanks

does anyone know what the dress code for class is? like, can i wear jeans and t-shirts? is the dress code different when attending the skills lab? i wish we could just wear our uniforms!

I will be starting the Transitional-Bridge Full Time program in the FALL 2011, Can anyone send me the list of professors to take: good vs bad? Also, textbooks and any items I will need

Does anyone know if the Workforce scholarship is applicable to Transitional-Bridge students?

Regards,

jaylen

Hi Jaylen! Congrats on your acceptance. :yeah: I will be applying to the bridge program for Spring 2012. Do you mind sharing your gpa and teas score?? thanks. :)

PursuitofHappyness,

Your TEAS score & GPA should get you in at MDC. It is my understanding that this semester was especially difficult to get into because of MDC Spring part-time program cancellation.

Yes, I have info on Broward College. In Jan 2010, I started asking 2nd & 3rd semester RN school students at BCC what they thought of the program. Many I met/asked said, "almost anyone can get accepted, but only 16% graduate". Personally know a student who has MBA degree who "pooh-poohed" me when I shared this info with him. Yet recently he emailed me and said "everything I had heard is true". His 2nd semester he had to withdraw and do a refresher course for critical thinking and something else. Personally, I'd try many other options before trying the BCC.edu route. I have personally seen students who failed BCC apply to MDC. I think MDC is harder to get accepted to. I don't think MDC is an easier program. I do think MDC makes an effort to provide tools & options to help a student succeed. Yet I still have yet to hear of their acceptance rate vs graduate-from-MDC ratio!! MDC said they had a 85%+ NCLEX pass rate recently.

I'd try to leave the Keiser & Keiser type universities lower on my list of options. You already know about the expensive tuition issue. You may want to ask their NCLEX graduation rates before you commit to that option. You might want to ask about the ability to transfer credits to a State college or State university (in the event you want to continue to a BSN degree).

You may want to consider the LPN, then LPN-RN option. Once you have your pre-req classes and are an LPN, you can apply to both the "generic RN program" AND the "LPN-RN program". Doubles your odds of being accepted. Anyone that has a reason not to do this... please chime in. It seems to me to be a good strategy for those not accepted the first try. It was my back-up plan if I had not been accepted this semester.

Your response has been very helpful!! Thank you for all the information you provided. Do you think I'll have a easier time getting into the nursing program at MDC next semester??

Hello Everyone,

What I am going to ask now has nothing to do with MDC nursing school, well it kind of does :clown:

I am going to start studying for the TEAS again, and try to correct the mistakes that I made, and my main concern is english. I have trouble with paragraph/passage comprehension and also grammar, does anyone know of any book or website that can help me improve my TEAS score?

Thank you very much in advance!!!!:yeah:

Fcat, i just found out yesterday that there are classes offered to help with the teas. go to register for a class online and for class id put EDU013 and all the avaliable classes will appear. it's consider "continuing education" so its worth no credit and its $75.00 a class. and each class is one section. which is great because it helps you focus just on the areas you're weak on.

good luck!

Pursuit,

You asked, "Do you think I'll have a easier time getting into the nursing program at MDC next semester?" I'm not 100% sure. Is anyone? But my best guess is "yes".

If I were in your shoes, I might talk to one of the "managers" or "more experienced advisors" in the academic advisement dept at MDC. Explain your test scores & GPA. Let them know you know students who had lesser scores that were admitted to RN school for Fall 2011. ASK THEM what you can do to improve your position as a good candidate for RN school. Get a CNA certification? Become a phlebotomist? Retake the TEAS and do even better? Take "intro to healthcare"? other ideas?

GOOD LUCK.

i have a question for those of you who have received a syllabus. did it indicate what chapters we should read before class starts? someone st the medical campus told me we should receive this and since i got my schedule late i havent received anything from my prof
