MDC Fall 2011 =)

U.S.A. Florida

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

hey i already replied to your PM but no we are not allowed to have any silver on our shoes =/ i am going to get the timberland pros, 85 bucks on amazon, totally worth it!

btw just dress casually but no too casual--remember first impressions are important and our professors might be our bosses someday! so always look as neat and clean cut as possible!

i copied and pasted on eagles wings list of shoes above wondering if they are allowed for the clinicals? :)

I have major problems with my feet - wide and short. The best shoes (I think they are the same that eagles is talking about) that I've found for my wide feet are these:

I liked them so much I bought a pair in blue (navy) for everyday shoes to take to school - that way they are closed shoes and look a little bit more dressed up - still casual, but neat. This weekend I'm buying jeans and blouses that are cute casual, but at least are not t-shirts (which is all I wear ironically!).

So excited and nervous!!:heartbeat:nurse:

can we have silver on them? :) i saw the sketchers but wasnt sure if i cvould get them... also do you know if we have to wear closed toed shoes to class? how do we have to dress this tuesday?? so excited.

oh and i really like zappos.com. they have an amazing selection of shoes!! i am totally picky. i have chubby baby feet :( and so i need something nice and wide. i hate laces... i'm a crocs/vans slip on girl. but i need lots of support for my arches too! pickypickypicky

these are some i am considering...:

i remember them saying it had to be completely white. even if it has a logo that has to be white as well. as for open toe shoes i dont think it would be a problem during lecture but during lab it will probably have to be closed shoes. and someone on the homestead thread said they called the nursing department and told them they have to wear a lab coat during labs.

It is a bit frustrating... I mentioned to the bookstore man. that I was a part-timer. Do I need stethescope, bp cuff, nurses pack, labcoat now? or later? He said not now, but yes in January... which didn't make sense to me. It seemed like these items would be required for Fall labs.... that we would practice this semester during labs to be prepared for clinicals in January. Seems like the clinicals you need the zip-up jacket but not the lab coat.

Moral to the story... listen to your peers, ask the nursing dept, & never rely on answers from one source.

Good morning early birds (to those who are awake)!!! Are we excited or not?! Today is the day...

I bought a nice camera and want a nice picture of all my fellow classmates. First day, a memory to remember, I want it. Dress to impress???

See you then.

i remember them saying it had to be completely white. even if it has a logo that has to be white as well. as for open toe shoes i dont think it would be a problem during lecture but during lab it will probably have to be closed shoes. and someone on the homestead thread said they called the nursing department and told them they have to wear a lab coat during labs.

Can they have shoe laces? I know they have to be all white but the shoes at the book store have no laces and I can't remember what they said about that during orientation.:uhoh3:

Medisave.net

It's about a $25 savings and free engraving....but shop around; clinicals (at least for me) don't begin till 9/22. Good luck!

Hi Brenda! I start my clinicals on 9/22 also. Are you in seq 1?

Can they have shoe laces? I know they have to be all white but the shoes at the book store have no laces and I can't remember what they said about that during orientation.:uhoh3:

i think they can. at orientation they said we can use Nikes as long as they were all white. they never said anything about laces.

So fellow nursing students! :nurse:

How are classes going so far? any insight?

and are you able to wear whatever you want to class and just worry about the coat and uniform for clinicals?

Best Wishes

I'm at Homestead, so not sure what is going on at Medical campus. We can wear pretty much anything except for like you said at the lab and clinical. The professors are pretty laid back at Homestead and ok so far. My favorite is Kathy Thomas who gives us a "blueprint" before the test with pretty much all the subject matter on the test. I would say the reading material up to the first test was like 300-400 pages of which I might have read 100 pages. But the "blueprint" TOTALLY saved me. I hope others comment too as I haven't taken all the tests this week yet. Take care. :)

Thank you! Your post has been helpful in knowing what to expect.

Best of luck :)
