MDC Fall 2019 Nursing

Published

Hello fellow students! I wanted to create a topic for those who are planning on starting the MDC Nursing program in the Fall of 2019. It's never too early to be well prepared. LOL. I have a B.A. and was able to get some of my credits transferred to the A.S. I read through the thread for the Fall of 2018 class and the Spring of 2019 class. Both threads have some very useful information regarding how to study for the HESI, scores needed to get into the program, etc. and many people from those groups keep in touch in Facebook and via Whatsapp. I'm looking for a support/study group for those that are in the same timeline as I am. Just starting BSC2086 A&P 2/lab and MGF1106 next week at Kendall/Homestead campuses. Also, looking for P/T work at Baptist Hospital or MDC. I am anticipating taking Microbiology and the Intro to Healthcare in the Spring '19, along with the HESI. Hope to meet some great people on here!

Thanks! I honestly found biology the hardest of all

oooh I have it to?morrow sweating like crazy

Like what type of questions? I'm taking Microbiology right now. I'm liking it.

Hello everyone! I just applied on Monday after taking my HESI for full time and part time generic in the fall. My science GPA is 4.0 and I got a 91% on my HESI, but I'm still nervous. My overall GPA is 2.7 (I messed up a LOT when I first got to FIU many years ago) and I'm scared it's going to keep me from getting into the program.

Hi Munkzxilla!

I wouldnt be nervous at all TBH. I believe overall GPA needs to be a 2.0 if I'm not mistaken. Either way they weigh 60% your Hesi score, plus 40% your science GPA. With your Hesi score and GPA you come out with a competitive score of 94.6. I would be shocked if that doesnt get you in.

You will get in for sure especially with a HESI score like that

I found the biology questions to be very detailed about the cell and the skin/tissues. Know more than just the parts of the cell and the basic functions. Make sure you really know how everything works.

Well.....I finished the HESI earlier today. Got myself an 89.71%. I'm wondering if taking it again hurts my chances of getting in if i score lower? still undecided

I also agree that the competitive score is what matters. Nice work!

In my opinion, any score over 85% is a great score, especially if your science GPA is high. I hope to get close to 90%. If I don't, I'll be taking it again. Not sure exactly when I'll take it. I've decided to wait for Spring and take the BSN pre-req's while I'm at it (Nutrition and Statistics). I'll be able to apply to several schools and hope to have a chance for a scholarship. I'm also looking for part-time work.
