MDC Fall 2019 Nursing

Published

Hello fellow students! I wanted to create a topic for those who are planning on starting the MDC Nursing program in the Fall of 2019. It's never too early to be well prepared. LOL. I have a B.A. and was able to get some of my credits transferred to the A.S. I read through the thread for the Fall of 2018 class and the Spring of 2019 class. Both threads have some very useful information regarding how to study for the HESI, scores needed to get into the program, etc. and many people from those groups keep in touch in Facebook and via Whatsapp. I'm looking for a support/study group for those that are in the same timeline as I am. Just starting BSC2086 A&P 2/lab and MGF1106 next week at Kendall/Homestead campuses. Also, looking for P/T work at Baptist Hospital or MDC. I am anticipating taking Microbiology and the Intro to Healthcare in the Spring '19, along with the HESI. Hope to meet some great people on here!

Hey, I have an AA degree from FSU and plan on transferring to MDC in the Spring 2019 semester. Here's my stats:

Science GPA: 3.45

HESI Score: 79.71%

I'm currently taking Microbiology and the corresponding lab. I have a good feeling im going to pass both of those classes with A's. Also, when I get admitted to MDC, I plan on taking CHM 1033L, HSC 0003 and HSC 0003L in the spring. I plan on applying to the Generic Full Time Program for the Fall 2019 semester. You think I should retake the HESI?? It would be my third time in total taking it and my second time taking it at MDC.

Also, I took a higher level of chemistry which was CHM 1045 and I got a C. Should I just keep the grade or should I take CHM 1033 with the lab to increase my chances??

Hi Cathi! Thanks for replying. Your scores look pretty solid; however, if you think you can improve on the 79.71%, I'd say go for it. It's a good score, but higher would be best. I took the CHM1033, and it was very challenging because it was during the summer and also 3 courses in one. I had not taken a chem class since high school and that was quite some time ago. I would suggest you take it, especially with the C in the other chem course. It would improve your science GPA. How is the Microbiology going? Is it tougher than the Chem1045? I'm assuming because of your grade that it's a better subject for you. I am in the same boat. I feel like that will be an easier class than the chemistry. I'm also planning on taking the HSC0003/L next semester. Good luck!

Microbiology is not hard at all. Im taking both the lecture and the lab and i currently have A's in both right now and trying to keep it that way. Yeah i think i might as well just take CHM1033 because besides chemistry I have A's in all my other prerequisites. And as far as HESI, i think I will try to take it again in the Spring 2019 semester. Have you taken your HESI yet??

Actually, I have not taken it yet. I have been practicing with the phone app's when I can. I am doing pretty good in the practices in everything except the chemistry, which is a hit or miss. I did much better in the organic portion than the non-organic while I was taking the course. The teacher helped. I took the class in the summer, which ended up being 2 teachers. The organic chemistry teacher was amazing. The other one, not so much. Thankfully, the questions that I've seen are somewhat basic, so I'll have to take out my notes and review, review, review. LOL. I'm actually testing well in the biology portions. To me that is more basic knowledge, just like the language sections. And the anatomy, well doing a lot of practice in A&P 2 right now, so that definitely helps. lol. Both of my lecture and lab teachers are good at reviewing A&P 1 while teaching the 2nd portion. That helps me try to keep the info fresh in mind. I'll probably take the HESI in March, to give me time to do a 2nd run, if needed. If I do over 85, I won't even consider it. I have a 4.0 in all my A.S. classes and A's right now for A&P 2/lab and math. So pretty confident I can pull off all A's again with a lot of sleepless nights. haha. It's worth it in the end. I just take it one day at a time and try to plan way ahead so I'm not rushing on stuff that I can pace, like research papers. Glad classes are going well for you. Keep it up! The semester will be over before we know it. :D

Hi guys! I agree, it's never too early to be well prepared! Lol. I also plan on applying to the ASN program at MDC. From what I've read, the generic program seems to be pretty competitive since its the more common route. I'm shooting for the accelerated option. I have a BA in Psychology from FIU which I received in 2014. I'm currently finishing up prereqs, taking chemistry and A&P1 with labs at the North Campus. Next semester I'll be taking Microbiology, A&P2 w/ lab, and the intro to healthcare + lab that's required. I'll also be studying for the HESI and plan to take it around March too! Looking forward to hopefully starting the AO program next year! What program are you guys going to apply for?

Thanks for making this thread! :]

Hi there FuturePsychNurseVC! Not sure why the app didn't send me a notice that I had a reply. Sorry it took so long for me to see this. I'm actually am going to apply to both generic and AO, since I want to have plenty of chances to get in. I'm currently looking for the books for the Microbiology and the Intro to Health. Doing very well in the A&P 2 and lab. Lot of work but it pays off. Good luck to you!

Hi, I was recommended to apply to the MDC nursing program instead of BCC. I live in Broward but someone told me they offer generic part time at MDC so I'm considering that but I will need to take chemistry lab class, intro to healthcare & ethics as well. I'm scheduled to take micro & lab now in January so I'm hoping I can take the rest of the classes before fall. I've been practicing for the HESI now but I'll need to start practicing the biology & chemistry part as well since BCC's HESI wouldn't test in those areas. What's the deadline date to apply for the 2019 fall nursing program at MDC?

Also, do you guys have a WhatsApp group chat already?

Does anyone know if a cna can apply to the bridge program or a phlebotomist

Hi just seeing this! I also live in Broward and heard the MDC program is better than BCC's. Nice! I'm taking chem and ethics now, in case I apply for the generic program. I'm really shooting for the AO.

The deadline for Fall 2019 is May first. Here's the url: Nursing RN Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) | Miami Dade College

@Grisso @maugustin we can definitely start a whatsapp chat! great idea :)

Hi Shanna,

I'm not sure to be honest. I did some quick searching but couldn't find the info.

Here's the url: Nursing RN Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) | Miami Dade College if you want to contact an advisor from the medical campus.
