MDC Fall 2019 Nursing

Published

Hello fellow students! I wanted to create a topic for those who are planning on starting the MDC Nursing program in the Fall of 2019. It's never too early to be well prepared. LOL. I have a B.A. and was able to get some of my credits transferred to the A.S. I read through the thread for the Fall of 2018 class and the Spring of 2019 class. Both threads have some very useful information regarding how to study for the HESI, scores needed to get into the program, etc. and many people from those groups keep in touch in Facebook and via Whatsapp. I'm looking for a support/study group for those that are in the same timeline as I am. Just starting BSC2086 A&P 2/lab and MGF1106 next week at Kendall/Homestead campuses. Also, looking for P/T work at Baptist Hospital or MDC. I am anticipating taking Microbiology and the Intro to Healthcare in the Spring '19, along with the HESI. Hope to meet some great people on here!

Thanks for the info Brittney, I also applied to both full time and part time, but I think I am leaning more towards part-time. If you dont mind me asking, how did you do on your HESSI?

No problem and yes I’m also leaning toward part time as well. My overall score was a 72.57. I’m nervous about that score . Honestly it wasn’t hard at all now that I look back at it, I think I let my nerves get the best of me. But I made all A’s in all my science classes so hopefully I get in .

You have a good chance, I know 2 girls that got in this semester with a lower score. Good Luck to all of us!

Hi everyone!

I'm also applying for the Fall Semester. I've been studying my Gluteus Maximus off (See what i did there!? ?) to ace the HESI. I've scheduled my test for March 1st, so i'm down to 30 days. My science GPA is at a 3.4 so i will need a solid score to have a chance. Wishing everyone the best and looking forward to seeing everyone's success posts!

If the Whatsapp idea is still on the table i would love to join. Many of the students for previous semesters seem to have set one up for their terms as well.

?. That was funny. Welcome and good luck! Let us know how you do. What program would you be applying to?

Hello FutureNurse0001, My name is Brittney and yes I submitted my application last year October 10. I submitted a application for the generic full time and part time program. If you haven’t submitted your application, just know once you submit your application you will not receive a email that it was processed. They informed me that it was processed and the email I will receive is if I got accepted into the program.

Hi Brittney! I didn't know you could apply to far in advance. Did they tell you when you could expect a response? I've not really considered the part-time program. How long does that take? Good luck to you!

Hi FN0001! ? Do you keep in touch? How are they doing and which campus did they get into?

Hey guys! Welcome to all the new peeps. Glad to see this chat is starting to liven up. ?. Feel free to invite others in. The more the merrier and the more information. I'll try to log in daily to check for new activity. I'm doing pretty good with the Microbiology classes, but now I'm considering waiting to apply to the spring semester. I recently found out that Baptist Scholars does not take students for the fall semester. Arghh...! I was looking into the Barry, Nova and FIU BSN programs as well since they also have Baptist scholarships. Going to try to find out more info in the coming weeks. For MDC's BSN I only have 2 pre-reqs left, Nutrition and Statistics, so I may take those over the summer and fall. Still deciding. Anyone facing the same type of decision? Trying not to stress out, but time flies.

Hello Grisso

Yes I applied as soon as I finish taking the hesi and they said I should expect a response mid June. They will send all responses via email. I considered both just to give me one more option just in case I don’t get into one, I might have another chance with the other program. Part is 8 semesters which equals out to 2 years and the full time is like a year and a half if I’m not mistaken.

is anyone still doing pre req in spring and plan to apply for fall

or do you guys know anything about the scholarships offered

Hi shanna! I've been looking into scholarship info also, in particular, those tied to Baptist Hospital. I'll post in here when I know more. Let us know if you've found out about any others. How long ago did you get your CNA?

That's not bad at all. I have also read about others getting in with lower HESI scores in other discussion boards from previous semesters, as long as their science scores balance out the total average. I hear the hardest section of the HESI is chemistry. Do you really need to memorize anything from the Periodic Table? The practice tests I've done on the free apps have all been more general chemistry topics such as the polarity of water.

Yes I was a little nervous about my score, but my fingers are crossed. Honestly for me they asked only 2 questions off the periodic table from what I can remember, but all the test are different and it would be good to know it all just in case they do ask you just a random one. Are you applying for the medical campus or homestead ?
