Had an emergency situation with a pt that had all of my licensed staff involved and I needed a Physician like yesterday and this dude hangs up on me because he was in a meeting of some sort...really?
I called him right back and was less than nice. During the first call I used words like please during the second call he got the F word twice and he miraculously showed up about 90 seconds later
I cant believe that guy...how about do your damn job!!! The meeting can wait...YOUR pt and YOUR staff need you bad! Totally ridiculous and uncalled for. I did apologize for yelling at him lol
Funny part was I dialed his office number...so where was this meeting? Yeah...iT was five min before his shift was over

Well.. I don't suggest swearing at the next MD as it might cost you your job, but I'm glad it worked and the MD was able to "find" the time to be of help.
I am usually super super professional when talking to my seniors ( prior military)..but once in a great while the old salty sailor comes out in times of desperation. In this case it was a serious risk for staff safety and pt safety...one of my staff ended up in the ED and a few of us ended up with some bumps and bruises

I have sworn at a few MDs who were being pr*cks and I didn't get fired. Shocker...
I have heard of docs hanging up or being evasive towards the end of the shift. It's not uncommon. Its best to be professional but when thy don't give you the same courtesy all bets are off.

Always stay professional but firm. Stop thinking of MD's as your superiors, but rather your colleagues. If you have a problem getting an MD to come in when you need them, offer to call the medical director or whoever is next on their chain of command instead. Or a rapid response.

I agree. Doctors are not above any other employee.

"You need to come to the psych unit now!" (hang up)
"Your patient is flipping out. Get here. Like yesterday".
I don't take the time to please and thank you, but again, I don't swear either. I am into just literal come now.
And I always call the RRT first. And a code yellow, purple, green ---whatever it is that you are dealing with.
The MD that hung up on me and I had a nice talk today...we are cool and understand each other a little better.
He did admit that the DON is nobody to play with and she apparently had a "one way talk" with him about his actions. Even the FMD doesn't mess with our DON...she has been there since the stone age and plays no games lol...I can say I don't ever want her job lol I'm happy being the charge nurse

I'm glad you were able to work through the issue

Geez..hanging up would be a relief. I can't get 'em to quit talking so I can get working. There's a few that I can't understand anyway so it's no use calling them for answers-I find the answer and call them to get permission. My aggravation is when they call YOU and drill you on another patient while you're elbow deep in someone's BM in another room..."Gee, Doc can I call you back?" You'd think they know but ... their crisis is not my priority.
