MCdonalds in Hospital

Nurses General Nursing

Published

What would you think if your local hospital had a Mcdonalds on the hospital grounds. Wouldnt it be even funnier if your hospital was one of the top 100 cardiovascular facilities in the country.

Of course the families and patients love it, but the dieticans hate it.............

Not naming names.........

I was told I would get addicted to coffee. After 12 years of nursing I still can't stand the smell, let alone to even try a taste. I'll stick with Jolt, and Mountain Dew, and diet pepsi.

;)

I drink mt. dew at school too...they don't serve Starbucks and that the only coffe I'll drink...it's got to be sweet and not coffee tasting...LOL:p

BUT..I cant drink it before a test or I am to shakey!!!!!!

CCURN you must work at st Lukes here in Houston. I work at Texas Childrens Hospital and we own the mcdonalds in question. It is the highest profit grossing McDonalds in the country. It is also open 24 hours a day. Kind of nice at 3 am when you want some fries or a dountain drink. Texas Childrens also owns a Chick Fil A, a Subway and a Villa Pizza in the hospital. They also sell Krispy Kreme donuts at the coffe shop/ espresso bar that they have in the building. Kind of nice to have a variety of food available. esp during the daytime.

Dave

Are fast food franchises also springing up in hospitals outside of the U.S.? Have you seen them at your hospitals, or is this just an American thing?

Actually I work in Minnesota

My question was directed to anyone here who works outside the US. Just curious, because McD's are springing up around the world. They're more prolific than rabbits.

Just one thing to say to you CCURN as a former Minnesotan.....BRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! too damn cold.....

Dave

Dood, I'm going to work with Dave.

:D

No MacDonalds etc, in UK hospitals as far as I'm aware of.I imagine it would cause an uproar. In my town there is one about 50 yards from a local high school and the kids have been banned from eating there at lunch times. The parents were furious it had been opened so close.

I also work at a major teaching hospital, we have a Chick Fil A. Our cafeteria food is absolutely the worst, and this is the seventh hospital I have worked in. I don't know if a Mickey Ds would make things any worse than they already are.

I think we could learn a thing or two from the Brits on this matter.

(Not that traditional British food appeals to me--boiled meat & potatoes, lol)

.......Actually, I'm sorry to burst the bubble but that isn't true. There is (and has been for many years) a MacDonalds within the grounds of Guy's Hospital in London!

They also have a Starbuck's opposite the main gates and there is a pub at the back gate that has a Pizza Hut upstairs!

I know this, 'cos I enjoyed all of the above in my time as a hard working RN on a cardiothoracic surgical unit!! :roll

....Big Macs and fries on nights. Fantastic!!

Fast Food Nation is an excellent book, and should be read by anyone who wonders where our food comes from.

Yes, I do plan on picking that up. :D
