Hey everyone!
Thought I would start a thread where we can keep up with all the fun new and exciting things coming our way! We'll get to meet each other in a few days (May 20th)! So, how shall we identify ourselves to one another? Hum...
Anyway, look forward to meeting you all! I'm excited about the Nursing Orientation!
Is there something that says you couldn't take them to a seamstress and have them slightly altered to look nicer?? Just curious.
Wow, way to think out side the box. Good thinking! I live right next door to a very reasonable seamstress. I'm with the rest of you: to big or to small looks kind of unprofessional. I think most people understand we are all just college students. If I saw someone in to big or to small uniform at MCC, I would think they were probably one of the lucky ones who got a free uniform or a dicounted one:nuke:
I only purchased one lab jacket, maybe later on I will get another one. I'm assuming you get it for the warmth factor, if there is some other reason let me know. Based on the material and the fact that I'm not a MI gal, I think the jacket would be like offering asprin to someone with a migrane. I need something much warmer.
The underware comment just made me lol; I guess its better than no underware:), but I have thought the same thing many times. If you have a pair of white pants, make sure you are not wearing colored, patterned or white undies. It's a rule:lol2:
I look forward to wearing a comfortable, no hassel uniform. I'm a get-up-and-go kind of gal.
I'd stick with one lab jacket too. I've only worn mine once and that was because of being forced. Pretty much it is doctors that wear them so I feel it is a retarded item to have. Nursing students wearing them just doesn't look right.
Sure you can take your unifrom to a seamstress. Just make sure they know what they are doing since the tops aren't cheap.

You cannot go and alter your uniform to make it look better (as in add darts or some other shape altering seams), you'd stick out like a sore thumb, I have never seen anyone do that. I hate the lab coat (and you definately only need one!). It is more shapeless than the uniforms, if that is possible. I was only required to wear it for one clinical, most instructors don't make you wear it. I think it's mainly for pinning, although at times (rare!) you will wear business casual street clothes with the lab coat. I think the blue uniforms stick out like a sore thumb, I'd rather wear white and look less like a pt transporter . I know how to wear flesh-colored underclothing
. It does seem that some do not :uhoh21: (I swear I've seen pink polka dots!).
I didn't say to add in darts or anything, but there are things you can do to make all clothing look nicer and be subtle about it. Nothing makes someone stand out more than dumpy looking clothing, IMO.My mom is a seamstress so I guess I can ask her what she can do to help the situation.
Go for it. I took one of mine in at the waiste so it wasn't so boxy and it was fine. I ended up ripping it but I loved it before that! I might also add a cargo pocket on the pants. I have them on my work scrubs and love them. The instructors I asked said it would be fine.

Thanks! That is what I needed to know!
I wear a white long-sleeve t-shirt under my uniform for warmth. the lab jacket just seems to get in my way during pt care. The jacket does serve it's purpose during psych clinicals and for a couple other things though, but you won't need to get a second one, IMHO.~Hoot~
Why does the jacket help for phych. clinical??

If you would rather wear white, you are crazy! I see those poor girls who are clueless that their undies and everything else are showing through at the hospital. Let alone the stains! Blue is fantastic!
The fit of the uniforms is horrendous though. If you aren't a XS or S they assume you are 7 ft tall. I am completely embarrased by how mine fits, and I wear a hoodie or whatever I can to cover them at all costs. I don't understand why we can't get some slightly fitted ones like what I buy for work.
