Hey everyone!
Thought I would start a thread where we can keep up with all the fun new and exciting things coming our way! We'll get to meet each other in a few days (May 20th)! So, how shall we identify ourselves to one another? Hum...
Anyway, look forward to meeting you all! I'm excited about the Nursing Orientation!
hey all you october starts!!!!
the day is fast approaching and i am so excited. does anyone have clinical on wed afternoon with me? i am nervous about the workload but will have to manage it somehow. i am a mom of two under three, work as a pct, and now in nursing school. anyone else a working mom going to school? i work with a few nurses who have gone through mcc and said while it was hard they did it and got through. can't wait to start, see everyone on monday!
Good to hear some updates. I'm starting the 1500's Jan 18th - any advise? This thread has been very helpful already with getting books, shots, uniforms and paperwork - thanks to everyone taking the time to post. Hopefully I will be able to help some students that start after me! Any advise (from the upper classmen) LOL would be greatly appreciated.

Hi There!
Like I said in an earlier post, I wasn't able to post on here for a long time. I was reading the thread though! I started in October, so I will be starting the 1600's/1700's.
I'm more than happy to send you some of the tips that helped me through. First, I have to admit that the first day I was excited, nervous, scared, plus any emotion in between. The 1510 & 1520 teachers will really put you at ease. After the first class, I was fine and I was just looking forward to everything. Another thing for me is that I thought that I had to know the entire body of Nursing knowledge day one. LOL. That is just my personality and I put too much stress on myself.
Make sure you take enough time each week to study. In 1510 the teacher will have handouts and study guides on Angel. Use them... print them out. Also, making flash cards helps also! There is a lot of things you have to know. I am not working right now, so I spent my days studying. Make friends. Everyone there is in the same boat as you. I have to say that the Oct starts are awesome! We made a facebook page which has proven very helpful.
In your clinical, most teachers expect you to show you are confident and capable. You might be shaking inside, but if you have studied up and know your material, don't let those nerves show. Everyone on staff so far has been extremely helpful and you can see they genuinely want you to succeed. YOU though have to put the work in.
OH... READ! The first few weeks you swear that it is "War and Peace" and there are a ton of pages to read. Try to keep up to date or somewhat ahead as much as possible. Life gets in the way. LOL. Do all that you are assigned to do and you will do great.
Finally, take some time for yourself! Breathe in and out and you will do great! If you need anything else, just let me know. I'd be happy to help the best I can. I like how you are willing to help others also. I like the motto "Lift as you climb". Best of luck to you! I'm excited for you to start on this great journey!
I have digital CIC hearing aids. There were two options I read, either you take out the hearing aids and use the stethoscope that way, or do like you do. I think that there is also an option of getting special tips for a regular stethoscope (for those without profound loss) but I heard that it wasn't the best way to go, and they will push them in further (I have completely in the canal aids). I know I wouldn't really like that.It is exciting to hear of those of us with hearing loss doing well. Good Luck in your program!!
Hi Gemberly,
I don't know if you will see this anytime soon as you are probably very busy with school, but I was wondering if you bought the stethascope you recommended to me and how you liked it. I am still trying to determine if that is what I need. I have tried the Littman cardiac III and the sounds were a little faint. I have looked everywhere and there are not any places to go and actually try out an electronic one. I was just looking for some advice since the electronic one is much more than the other. Any help you could give would be great. Thanks Mzam2012

Ok, I'm officially broke:) Purchased the last of my books except "Comprehensive Handout of Lab. and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications". This was not in the bookstore, nor did I find it on Amazon. Any tips? The secretary suggested I just wait until the first day of class.
I figured out how our rotations worked, just had to reread the manual:)
Ya all ready:) I've been sending warm wishes and prayers to all who are already in the program and those of us who will begin in a couple weeks.
