MCC nursing applicants for 2015

Published

Hello everyone!

I've been obsessively reading over the threads for the 2013 and 2014 applicants, but I thought I'd see if anyone will be applying to the Nursing program at Macomb Community College for 2015. I am a transfer student from Texas and will be taking A&P this summer then intro to Nursing (since MCC requires that you take their specific course) and micro in the Fall. I'm so excited to get back into school and was wondering if anyone is following along the same timeline.

You'll be able to get a job in the field once you start school don't worry!

I think EVERY nurse should be a nursing assistant/tech somewhere before they get into an RN position. After encountering many many students doing their clinicals, many say they wish they knew what they were getting themselves into. Sure you learn a lot as you go during nursing school, but in some cases might feel trapped because you find out that its not what you want to do and not what you expected nursing to be. Just saying, it happens. If there is an opportunity out there to take a position TAKE IT!!

Thanks for the advice! It's just something i've been thinking about recently.

This is very encouraging advice! Thank you.

I was thinking about working as a nurse's aid also. The experience would be very beneficial since I have never worked in a hospital setting before. Do you need to be certified in order to get a job? I looked into some 2 week programs for certification and it's around $1000.

You guys will be able to find jobs after Med SURG 1 which is after your first 24 weeks of the program!

Actually no it's after fundamentals to be a PCT/PCA/NA. it's after med surg 1 that you can be a nurse tech.

Ok so as long as you pass those classes you can get hired as a nurse tech without going through a certification process?

It makes sense when you think about it...I'm sure you'll learn a lot immediately in the program lol

Yep when you search online for these positions under requirements it will say Certified Nurse Assistant OR nursing student in accredited program with a passing grade in fundamentals of nursing.

That is definitely good to know! Thanks!!!

Thank you i didn't know that i could be certified after those classes! Definitely something to keep in mind!
