Mayo New Grad RN Residency program (Feb/2016)

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey Peeps,

Just seeing who else applied to the Mayo Nurse Residency program for the Feb/2016 start. I don't graduate until December this year and don't have a super competitive GPA anymore due to nursing school B's. I am doubting I will get a spot, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Just making this thread for anyone who wants updates on the interview and selection process for this go around. I think the next application session will be early next spring for those who miss this one.

Does anyone know how many applicants there were this go around?

I don't think that's correct. I'm in traditional and am at Mayo for my Med/Surg rotation. I don't believe any of our CEP groups are at Mayo, either.

Well that's what our clinical coordinator told us. What block are you in?

Specializes in Renal, Diabetic.

I went to SCC as well. We got tons of Mayo placements there for both CEP and traditional across blocks 2-4. What the likely reason for what you are told is that YOUR school could only get so many Mayo spots and decided that the school policy would be to save the Mayo spots for CEP students. But AZ Mayo is not a magnet hospital and doesn't require a BSN for employment. A good amount of SCC traditional and CEP students from my graduating class were accepted into the residency program.

In only saying what GW's clinical coordinator told us. She said, and I quote, "Mayo is now only accepting CEP students." It would've been easier for GW to send traditional students to Mayo as all the non-Mayo options for my cohort are completely full. Whereas my clinical group has 4 people out of an available 8 spots because we were told Mayo is CEP only. I'm just stating what I was told by the coordinator; highly doubt GW just decided this as it limits their clinical

spots pretty bad.

I am also curious about Mayo's residency program...

Anyone have information on how and where do you apply? When do you apply too? Is there a link that has more information? Because I searched online and the Mayo website didn't have very much information on the how, where, when etc...

I'm in the program right now, I think the next application will be out in October for a couple of days only. You would be applying for a start date in February. You apply online and they will then contact you via email for any further information. I think if you google mayo clinic nurse residency program in Arizona, information should come up.

Curious how you like it? I would LOVE to get into a residency program after graduation. I know Mayo is super competitive for their program though.

I love it! I haven't met a person who wasn't friendly or willing to help me along in my learning. The teamwork is amazing and I feel like a valued member of the team, even though I've just started out. All I can say for you is to definitely try for mayo. My gpa was nothing to brag about, I don't have a BSN, and I had no previous experience in the medical field. Im not exactly sure what stood out enough for them to pick me, but if I can get in, anyone has a chance. For statistics, over 500 applied, around 90 were interviewed, and 31 were offered positions. It's very competitive but it's worth a shot.

That sounds amazing, definitely going to apply for the program once I graduate. Thanks for the reply!

Hello, I couldn't find the information on their website. How many letters of recommendation are required for the application? Thank you!
