Mayo New Grad RN Residency program (Feb/2016)

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey Peeps,

Just seeing who else applied to the Mayo Nurse Residency program for the Feb/2016 start. I don't graduate until December this year and don't have a super competitive GPA anymore due to nursing school B's. I am doubting I will get a spot, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Just making this thread for anyone who wants updates on the interview and selection process for this go around. I think the next application session will be early next spring for those who miss this one.

Does anyone know how many applicants there were this go around?

Hi!

I applied too and graduate in December. I heard it is very competitive but anything is worth a try. I am from Illinois looking to relocate to Arizona after graduation. Any advice on places that hire new grads would be greatly appreciated. Im trying to keep all my options open.

Thanks

Phoenix CHildren's Hospital hires a lot of new grads year around. Also, Banner Health is known to be new grad friendly :)

I think they are interviewing the candidates with a previous/existing relationship with Mayo first. I know someone who works there that also has an interview next week.

Hey everyone, I graduated this past April, and I applied for the program and received my RN. I do know my friend in my cohort last spring applied before the June start date while still in school. It took them about a month to get back to her, and they said to have her try again for this one because they would rather have already graduated and RNs working. Only because it takes up to a month for your school to transfer your info to the board to test, and if you graduate in December the schools won't send your stuff till after the holiday season, cutting it really close, which means you wouldn't be able to take your boards until the start dates. Now, that doesn't mean it hasn't happened but since you don't have completed clinicals and a definite GPA, they're less likely to choose your application. For those of you who are graduating this December, congrats to you and good luck on your boards. I pass in 85 questions, I read the whole Saunders comprehensive NCLEX book and did priority questions, about 100 a day until my exam, it's all you need to do! Sorry this was so long! goodluck!

Ps if you apply for an account you can check on your acct status. It will show you whether your application has been received and then if it has been reviewed!

Thanks :) I will check into those! Good luck at your interview.

So I got the "thanks but no thanks" email a day or two ago. No luck this time around. Good luck to the remaining applicants and Kendall with her interview this week!

Sorry to hear that :( I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, and something great will be coming your way.

interview was behavioral/scenario based so it was not the easiest thing to do a day after my cardiac exam, but everything that is meant to be will be.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting, or still working toward graduating! We're so close!

Hi! I am also relocating from IL to AZ ;) Small world after all!

Hey! Honor health has new grad residency programs. I would say they are second best to mayo, but it all depends on who you ask. Then there's banner, and abrazo healthcare that hires new grads! goodluck and congrats on when you graduate and pass that NCLEX! By the way. I would recommend taking your NCLEX here and claiming this as your resident state so you can have multi state privileges!

Hello! I had an interview for this program at the end of October. I am still waiting for any more updates. Have you guys heard anything from your friends or classmates? Thanks!

EMMAYZING! I have a question. Do you work at Mayo now too? Did your friend from before apply again and got an interview for this time? Thank you ! :)

HI, Guys!

I also applied. I got a call for an interview, which is next week for the Med-Surg position.

From what I heard there were over 500 applicants and will have around 75 interviews (just what I have heard though). SO I am sure it will take a while to get all those calls out. I did most of my clinicals at Mayo and was also a Nurse Extern there over the summer, on the oncology floor, so I am hoping for a return to that floor.:inlove: Mayo is such an awesome hospital, and speaking with the nurses that went through the residency they are extremely happy and comfortable with how it's prepared them. Good luck everyone!

Hey! Which school did you go to that did most of their clinical hours at Mayo??

I'm at GWCC in the CEP program and my Med/Surg clinical is at Mayo this semester. Mayo now only takes CEP students.

I don't think that's correct. I'm in traditional and am at Mayo for my Med/Surg rotation. I don't believe any of our CEP groups are at Mayo, either.
