  1. I knew the day I wanted to become a nurse that I wanted to become an oncology nurse. That was the first position I was hired into and I got the job before I even graduated. I have my BSN, and I volunteered at my hospital before I started nursing school. I requested the oncology floor to volunteer on because I was so eager to be in that environment. You don't need nursing school to know what kind of nurse you want to be, you just have to have that goal in mind! Certifications come after you have a certain amount of hours on the floor as an RN. This is through the Oncology Nursing Society. Good luck! You will be a great oncology nurse, those of us that truly love it make the biggest difference to the patient!
  2. I don't have any new info for you, so sorry I've been busy wrapping up my semester and with preceptorship and haven't been able to catch up with anyone for a few days. I will be sure to update you if I run into any other applicants though! Hopefully some others will start to reply here for you
  3. Yes! I hope to meet you too! The few friends I talked to that interviewed for ICU haven't heard anything yet either so it may just be at different days. I interviewed October 29th :) when was yours?
  4. I've seen on other threads that people get the e-mail on different days so don't lose hope! It was just a general e-mail to consent to a background check. I know someone from school who just interviewed for ICU last week so they may still be working on that. Who knows though, it's all hear say. I know it's hard to keep waiting. As I was writing this I got the call for an official offer for 7 West on night shift! Good luck, I will be crossing my fingers for you!
  5. Final went well! Officially done with the hardest part. I am placed at Mayo for preceptorship on 7E. I actually got the background check e-mail yesterday and my status changed to "interview" so hopefully that will be a step in the right direction. It seems those emails go out a few days at a time and not all at once from what I have seen in previous threads. Thats awesome you passed in 75 questions! What did you do to study?
  6. Sorry I had my final today so I've been off the internet cramming! I am not sure what GPA they were looking for everyone seemed to have at least a 3.75 and up but not sure that was as important as the interview. I think she did remember me because she asked about how I enjoyed my externship! :) I think there were around 26 of us.
  7. Wow that's awesome! Did you work at Mayo or another valley hospital? I've had my eye on the opportunity since before nursing school, I can't even remember how I came across it to be honest. Anyway, the requirements were to be in your 2nd or 3rd semester of nursing school and you interviewed with the nursing coordinator (much like the residency process). It was 10 weeks and 3 12-hour shifts per week. It was an awesome learning experience. Are you still working as a CNA or unit secretary?
  8. I was told they should have a decision by Thanksgiving and I would hear directly from HR at that point. I've been a private caregiver, but besides my summer externship I don't have direct acute care experience. You?
  9. Exactly! I am honored just to be picked from the pile for an interview. I externed on 7West (hematology/oncology), and will be doing my preceptorship starting next week on 7E. I know one person who interviewed for critical care, but the rest are mainly med-surg interviews. I've done all my rotations there except for critical care so I haven't been on any of those floors. That's awesome you have that critical care experience there, that seems hard to come by for those wanting a specialty. I am pretty sure I put my top 3 choices as 7W, Progressive/step down, and then 4E (bone marrow transplant). I would take anywhere though, I have loved every floor. What floors are your top choices? Were your scenarios critical care based like patients on a vent, etc? or were they pretty general? What school did you graduate from? and yes I will be sure to update you if I hear anything at all, and I hope you will do the same! These next two weeks are going to be filled with nerves every time the phone rings or I get an email.
  10. That's great! Sounds like you did well then! I am in the NAU/CEP program at Scottsdale. Myself and 4 other people were interviewed in our class. I was an extern there over the summer and three others are current employees, but one girl has a lot of health care experience. I am not sure how many or how long interviews will go for but I heard from another student that there will be around 75 interviews. Just hearsay though! Will be on the edge of my seat until I hear back!
  11. Yes, I interviewed with the nursing coordinator and then a supervisor from the hematology/oncology floors. They did go over the pay rate and program with me, and from what I have heard from some other people in my class that interviewed the same applied to them. I was initially pretty freaked out about my interview because it was the day after a huge cardiac exam and care plan/clinical so I was practicing as much as I could for questions, and I left out some important details for the scenarios. The more I think about it, I realize that I probably did okay and know what to do in those situations moving forward. Hindsight is always 20/20 though ! How did yours go? Did someone from critical care interview you?
  12. How did your interview go? I interviewed for the med-surg position a couple weeks ago. No status updates since then. Has yours updated?
  13. Sorry to hear that I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, and something great will be coming your way. interview was behavioral/scenario based so it was not the easiest thing to do a day after my cardiac exam, but everything that is meant to be will be. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting, or still working toward graduating! We're so close!
  14. Phoenix CHildren's Hospital hires a lot of new grads year around. Also, Banner Health is known to be new grad friendly :)
  15. HI, Guys! I also applied. I got a call for an interview, which is next week for the Med-Surg position. From what I heard there were over 500 applicants and will have around 75 interviews (just what I have heard though). SO I am sure it will take a while to get all those calls out. I did most of my clinicals at Mayo and was also a Nurse Extern there over the summer, on the oncology floor, so I am hoping for a return to that floor. Mayo is such an awesome hospital, and speaking with the nurses that went through the residency they are extremely happy and comfortable with how it's prepared them. Good luck everyone!
