i want to be a RN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I felt the exact same way before I took my exam. I was sooo ready to get it over with, but I was terrified at the same time. Take some time off and relax, and then get right back to studying. Trust me, the study breaks really do help. :)

hello to all MAY Nclex Takers! :an!:

im doing questions and i had a run thru with this question:

The wife of a client with pulmonary tuberculosis has diabetes mellitus and is skin tested for tuberculosis twice yearly. The latest test had a greater than 10-mm are of induration. The nurse is aware that this indicates:

1. The skin test should be repeated

2. Further diagnostic is required

3. No further action is required at this time

4. The wife's test is positive for tuberculosis

So..Answer choice #1 is out (No need for that. The client is obviously positive on the test). #3 is out (the client is positive so there's a need for initial/immediate action. Now, we have #2 and #4. I answered #4 because since the wife of the client with PTB is already immunocompromised/high risk and an exposure to the TB a result of greater than 5-mm is considered positive. But in the rationales the correct answer is #2. Well both are actually right but the rationale doesn't seem right. Here's the rationale for both choices:

:igtsyt:

Why #2: Im not gonna type here the exact words but it says/explain that the client is at (high) risk due to DM and repeated close contact with pt. with PTB. Therefore, needs further diagnostic study such as chest x-ray and sputum culture.

Well, I agree to that. I know that after the (+) result further test is needed. But i don't agree with this:

Why not #4: The client's test was positive, not negative.

If you'l check the answer choice #4, it clearly says ther that "the wife's test is (+) for TB. Now there's a contradictory. Is this just a typographical error? Will someone enlighten me please? Im really confuse on this. Because on NCLEX there are really tricky answer choices that will lead you to two correct answers. But you need "ultimate" critical thinking" to choose which one?

Thanks in advance!:cmptrgk:

Ah...the "critical thinking" part of the NCLEX nursing world..dont get me started yet again.. BUT i can beat you. i just did a hurst review CD. (where you print out the test then pop in the CD and a panel of 4 RN's goes over the test with you"

The quesions goes somthing like this.

1. You the nurse walks into a pts room and sees the trashcan on fire, what is the priroty ?

A. condem the pt for smoking in the room

B. put a wool blamket over the trachcan

C. Pull the fire alarm

D. ask the pr how the fire started

NOW...WE ALLLLLLL know R.A.C.E-(rescue, activate, contain, extinguish) right---so im thinking easy answer

since rescue the pt is not an option or anything like it, EASY choice !!!!! Activate the alrarm DUH !!!

NOPE.

put, wool blanket over the burning trashcan....uhhhh, ?????

I guess in the "critical thinking" world, wool DOES not burn ??

God, i need to pass this dumb test.

I guess this one's more about safety than RACE??? I'm confused too. *shrug*

i think you need to wet the wool 1st before covering the trash can to prevent creating a big fire.hehehe

i would say, pull the fire alarm when i get to the NCLEX exam, bcos, i am not going to pull a blanket and start reading thru to see if its wool or not, i'll follow RACE srtictly, cos NCLEX is a perfect world, and i guess in the hospital policy too, fire is fire, no matter where it starts and you must be held accountable for your actions as a nurse, u must be able to say i did the right thing "in NCLEX world".

i am writng on thursday morning, i ve closed all books over the weekend, i got tired and :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

haha..another tricky question huh?

well since they're inside the room..probably use the RACE method. so i agree with enobong, i'll push the fire alarm first. since aunt marlene says..NCLEX is a perfect hospital. you've got plenty of time to do your Nursing Diagnosis..my :twocents:. i like this..we're able to post our run thru questions and be able to share it..:yeah:
