Hi,
I'm taking a poll......who is still in Nursing and 50 or over and what field are you in!!
Sue age 56 :chuckle
I'll be 50 when I graduate with my ADN. SO I'm hoping to find LOTS of nurses my age when I finally get out there! Good to hear that so many of you are still hanging in!
I give you alot of credit, and wish you luck on your journey to become a nurse, it is a demanding profession, but a rewarding one as well!

I'm 57, graduated from Nursing School 11 yrs ago. Have done Med/Surg, OB/GYN, and now I work as a Case Manager. Loved floor nursing but burned out on Med/Surg because of the staffing shortage. Loved OB/GYN but getting 3 c/s in a row plus 4 other just delivered pts plus doing mother baby completely overwhelmed me so I got out and now I have a desk job with the State of Utah working human being hours with w/e, holidays off. Took a big cut in pay, but the bigs bucks were not worth putting my license on the line every time I went to work.
I'm 58 and working in Developmental Disabilities nursing. Great job, and the best part is how all my nursing experience has finally paid off. I can get a phone call in the middle of the night, tell the staff what to do,then roll over and go right back to sleep. Years ago it would have kept me awake for the rest of the night, second guessing my decision. :chuckle
Hi Sue,
I'm a little late getting back to you, but I am 54 and I work in a specialty
hospital. It is all oncology, right now I am on a med-surg unit giving some
chemotherapy and also taking care of some surgical cases, such as mastectomies, hysteretomies, and bowel resections, etc. I transferred to this unit last year, prior to that, I was on a head, neck and thorasic unit w/ telemetry and many post op patients. I work 7pm to 7am 3 days a week, we also have to put an 8 hr. shift in that 2 week period to make an 80hr. 2 week
pay. Our nurse to patient ratio is low, 4-6 patients, thats not bad for night shift. The accuity level of these pt.s can be on the high side, we also have 2
cna's on w/ us. The unit holds up to 16 patients.
