Well, I'm 53. Been in Nursing for 32yrs. The last 20 in ICU. Working nights 12h shifts. and I'm starting to feel my age. The plan was to retire @ 55, (I work for the VA so I can retire @ 55 with 33yrs.) But we're doing some major remodeling of the house so I might stay for a few more yrs.

congrats are in order!!!! way to go on the boards...and i love the unit you are going on, i have considered that area myself, however, i thought you had to work med/surg for a while before being able to go there. good luck to you and you should feel really proud of yourself.

Remember Jack Benny?
He stayed 39 for decades.
We are aging better now, so I will admit my age as being 49.
I was 49 last year, too.
And I plan to remain 49 for at least the next 5 years. :biggringi

I'm turning 61 next month. 39 years of various nursing specialties, many years in Alternative nursing in collaboration with three medical practices. Rhythmical Massage as extention of nursing skills since 1988. Home health nursing past three years, now considering hemodialysis nursing...thanks for a great question!

Graduated in 1970. Have been in long term care the entire time. My goal is to become the PERFECT old lady. All kidding aside, I have never regretted not having hospital experience.

HI Sue.
I happened to check my email and found a statement I wrote in about a couple of years ago, I can't believe this thread is still going on.I am 57.5
years old and about to return to night shift, 3 12 hr. shifts a week. I was on days, but I can't take the politics.I will make more money on night shift.
I will do this for a year or so, then I'll probably look for something in outpt.
dept until I cut my hrs. back.
Hi Sue, you can include me in your poll. I am 54 and work on a med-surg unit doing 12 hr. shifts 7pm to 7am. fulltime! My specialty is oncology, alsotelemetry.scooterRn52

I moved from California to Michigan 5 years ago. I was burned out from nursing and have taken that time off to get myself, mentally and physically, in shape. Bad Feet!! But, now I think I would like to return to work at the small hospital in our town. I feel a little nervous about my skills. They are still there, but I think I have forgotten alot of things. I just ordered a book from Lippincott. Can't remember the name exactly but it's basically going over 700 procedures. I thought it might help me get back in the groove mentally.
