Hi,
I'm taking a poll......who is still in Nursing and 50 or over and what field are you in!!
Sue age 56 :chuckle
I will turn 50 in 2 1/2 mos. My husband tells me I don't look one day over 35!!!
After graduating 18 yrs ago with ADN, I trained and worked in L&D, then sat for Certification and passed! My main focus had always been OB/GYN. I also was a Childbirth Educator as well as Breastfeeding Coordinator. I also worked in Assisted Living (the other end of the spectrum) for about 6 mos. Even tried working in 2 different OB/GYN Dr. offices (to get off of night shift) but didn't appreciate the lower pay.
I don't work in the hospital anymore. I have been in my present position as Telephone Triage RN for 2 yrs now and I love it! It is a great alternative for me than floor nursing! I certainly don't miss the 12-hr shifts....I only work 6 hrs/day, 5 days/week!!!!!
After 10 years at a SNF, I returned this past year to acute care bedside nursing. When I left acute care at age 48, most of my patients were older than me. That was certainly the case in long term care but now most of them are younger than my 58 years. I am grateful for my health and I appreciate that my nursing skills now include the wisdom that comes from simply having survived this long.
