Hi,
I'm taking a poll......who is still in Nursing and 50 or over and what field are you in!!
Sue age 56 :chuckle
If your in Michigan you may have seen the nurse honored in the nursing newletter sent out in Michigan...she is 86 and still working full time in longterm care.I had the pleasure of working with her..she ran circles around me. I was tired after 2 days in a row she would do 10 days straight! I know the young new grads think we old fuddie duddies should move aside but you will find in nursing...we are not so well pensioned and provided for in retirement so we stay and stay and stay..The vital thing is to continue learning and to realize that after graduation. It is important to continue learning as in any medical field there are advances and changes going on everyday..We "older" nurses need our own forum.
I am 52, been a nurse for 6 years now in ER. Am very happy. I am doing 1 or 2 travel nursing gigs per year now, then return to my staff job whenever I want.
The rest of the time I am out riding my harley, or glued to Allnurses.
I work about 50 hours per week. Gotta make hay while the sun shines. And I am so very greatful that I am healthy enough to keep up the pace.
I am turning 50 in three months, and I find that my focus is changing as I get older---suddenly it's no longer about the quantity but the quality: of life, of work, of everything. I'm leaving my DON job because I no longer want to spend 50 or 60 hours a week at work. I'd rather have a little less money and a little more time to enjoy life.........I love to garden, to play on the computer, to read, and just to make the most of my time with family. There's more to life than simply increasing its speed. I want to LIVE until I die!

savouring each and every day, and loving being my own boss!
as i've stated previously: nursing served me well. i served it well. we're even.
it's now my time. :typing
HAHAHA!!!! I just re-read the title of this thread .... it has the word MATURE in it. Given the meaning of that word; I'm thinking a MATURE person wouldn't be playing on a computer posting "smilies"??!!! LOL
Then again, what is retirement for, if not for allowing your inner child to emerge and have fun with the toys we never had in childhood!!! LOL
