Maryville University FNP Program Recent Student's Reviews

I had an appointment this past week with an admission's advisor for the Maryville U online FNP program. I was really impressed with how she described the program and since our conversation I have been able to easily get in touch with her through email. I can not say the same for University of Cincinnati. I have emailed my advisor and she has yet to get in touch with me nor call me back. Simmons College's advisor has also been very helpful and is great with the follow up phone calls. This makes me think that these are my two programs that I will apply. My only concern is, that when I research Maryville's program on here to read reviews I have seen a lot of mixed reviews. Most of these reviews were from a year or so back when the program was still so new to online. What I would like to know is how are current Maryville students liking the program? Is it user friendly? Work load manageable with working and family life? Do you feel like the program is giving you a great education and preparing you to become a well versed and knowledgable FNP that will pass boards?

I think they accept everyone.

The problem so far has been consistency. The teachers are not consistent from one week to the next nor is the program. I know feel stuck in the program because I can't transfer all my credits and I'm thousands of dollars in debt. They change things in the classes all the time. Now they are changing test to some essay type answers, which I do not feel is preparing me for boards nor do I feel it will be graded consistently. Some weeks are overwhelming and stressful. Lots of people drop out of the program and I do not think that is reflected well in their stats they share. Nor do I feel the pass rate is correct. I would speak to numerous student and NOT listen to the people that work at Maryville. They are trying to get you into their program for the money. I do not feel they care about you as a student nor do they understand (ie advisors). Some teachers have been awesome and some have not. Some respond and are helpful others not so much.

I absolutely agree with you with regards to inconsistency especially with the tests, what I have realized is the grass is not always greener on the other side, most online programs always have issues and I if have a choice I would prefer to be in a brick and mortar school but sadly I have to work. I am scheduled to take patho and pharmacology in the fall and Advanced assessment in the spring of next year and I seriously hope that the issues with the Advanced assessment exam would have been resolved, most online programs don't accept credit transfer so that is not an option, I guess I will just have to make the best of what I have.

I am currently between Simmons and Maryville. How has your Simmons experience been?

Jesstatic, I am in Maryville. I wish I had transferred to Simmons or a school that helps with clinical placement, but I'm almost done. My advice is go with an online program that will help with your clinical placement. Maryville will not help you AT ALL.

I started my FNP program at University of Texas Arlington. This program was NOT a fit for me. It felt chaotic and disorganized. I never quite understood what was required for the assignment. It felt like what was asked was never what was required. I hated the statement by instructors saying, "you know you are in a masters program now and you need to be able to do things yourselves" Well, if not well explained you really can't it well. Needless to say I transferred to Maryville University, oh Lord! the difference was like night and day. Assignments are well explained, questions are welcome and help is a stone throw away. I can't believe how much easier life got. Am taking patho and Pharm this semester, very crazy combo but am glad am doing it here. The instructors work together so tests don't conflict on the same week. I kid you not, it ain't easy but I can tell they try to work with students. My point is everyone has a place they feel at home, some students like UTA, I didn't like it, some students don't like MVU, I do so do your research and here is to hoping you make the right decision.

I'm in the BSN-DNP program at Maryville, finishing up in December 2017, I have had a very positive experience so far and if I have to make the decision again, it's still going to be Maryville.

I have 2 semesters to go at MVU in their AGNP program and I like their canvas application for students. If you read the syllabus, do the modules and required reading, you will pass. I am in the class where they have changed the tests to a mix of multiple choice and essay and personally I do not think the essay part is fair, however it does force you to study what you need to know. Best advice I would give anyone is to put in required study time, don't do things at the last minute and download a study app on your phone like quizlet and you should be fine.

I am currently at Maryville University enrolled in the FNP program. It was the only school I could find with the FNP program all online, that could fit my lifestyle. All of the other schools I talked with were either a "hybrid" (1/2 online, 1/2 in person), it would be over a year before I could start, once you start no time would be allowed off except for extreme circumstances or I would have to drive half way across the state to take a test every couple of weeks. I have 2 jobs, kids, the hubs...We are just a busy, regular family. Now, I am only 1 year into it, but so far so good. Instructions are clear, instructors give their cell numbers, e-mails and office numbers to get in touch with them for questions. Advisors are always in touch and willing to help with any questions. Classes thus far have been in 8 week blocks. It has been writing papers and posting and replying to discussion posts after reading the text and/or reviewing articles from the university library. No tests as of yet. I was able to take off an 8 week block at the beginning of summer for family time. I am in no rush but I did not want to wait a year before starting a program either. The same time will pass with or without this degree, so I am not going to stress myself and my family.

Its worth spending the time to get the facts and talk with an advisor when considering all the choices. As far as clinicals go, most people I have talked with that are in a nurse practitioner program, they have to find clinical sites themselves as well. Its hard for everyone. Overall, I am very pleased with the way things have gone and am pleased with my choice. I would recommend this program to anyone with a very busy..."mom" lifestyle. This program makes it possible!

Thanks Jen! I started this fall and it's going really well. I have a lot of changes (new job and just found out we are expecting!) and I feel like this program is the only one that will accommodate and be doable during all these changes. I will be delivering in May so it's good to hear you were about to take off 8 weeks! I will make sure I speak with my advisor about this.

Does anyone have experience or know anything about the Psych NP program online through Maryville? I am trying to gather as much information as possible. The online programs are limited and most universities require you to go on their campus at least once per year and this is difficult with me living in Alaska. Maryville doesn't require this and that is a selling point. I've just had bad experiences with online universities and I am nervous to pull the trigger. Any advice is helpful!

Hello I am looking into Simmons just wondering hoe you liked the program and if you felt well prepared for the boards?
