Ive been studying a lot and finding a lot of errors in my books. Believe this, on my study guide I have it actually had insulins-- coudy to clear! I guess this has been an old way??? also I have read its OK to inject insulin same area as long as its one inch apart and then roatate sites once per week?

Mixing Insulins from Saunders

1. Wash hands.

2. Gently rotate NPH insulin bottle.

3. Wipe off tops insulin vials with alcohol sponge.

4. Draw back amount of air into syringe that equals total dose.

5. Inject air equal to NPH dose into NPH vial. Remove syringe from vial.

6. Inject air equal ro regular dose into regular vial.

7. Invert regular insulin bottle and withdraw regular insulin dose.

8. Without adding more airto NPH vial, carefully withdraw NPH dose.

Insulin injection sites:

a. Main areas: abdomen, arms(posterior surface), thighs(anterior surface) and hips.

b. abdomen - absorb more evenly and rapidly than other sites

c. Systematic rotation within one anatomical area is recommended to prevent lipodystrophy; not to use the same site more than once

in a 2-3 wk period

d. Injection sites should be 1 1/2 inches apart within the anatomical area

e. Heat, massage and exercise of the injected area can increase absorption rates and may result in HYPOGLYCEMIA

f. Injection into scar tissue may delay absorption.

Hi OR2CA

thanx for the post...

I have a request... is it possible for someone to make a list of procedures commonly tested and post it here?? just alist not the steps... I have noticed a lot of SATA's are like procedures...I may be wrong..

one of the fequently tested procedures

[color=#660000]handwashing pixel.gif pixel.gif handwashing is an acceptable method for hand hygiene. although it does not have the many advantages of an alcohol-based hand rub, it removes dirt, blood, and body fluids. the essential components of handwashing are:

friction: to remove visible soiling, dead skin cells, and other material which may harbor pathogenic microorganisms.

soap: to loosen skin oils as well as to remove dirt and body fluids.

warm water: to rinse off loosened dirt, debris, and pathogenic particles.

Diagnostic test for Neurology disorders:

1. Skull and spinal radiography- postprocedure: maintain immobilization until results are known.

2. CT scan- preprocedure: assesses allergies to iodine, contrast dyes, or shellfish. Pt needs to lie still and flat during the test.

3. MRI

4. Lumbar puncture- position pt in a lateral recumbent position, knees up to the abd and chin to the chest during the test. Postprocedure: position the pt flat and encourage fluid.

5. Myelogram- assess for allergies to iodine.

6. Cerebral angiography-assess for allergies to iodine and shellfish. Postprocedure: monitor for swelling in the neck, for difficulty swallowing ( notify MD). HOB 15 to 30 deg only if prescribed, if the femoral artery is used then the bed needs to be flat.

7. Electroencephalography

8. Caloric testing (ocularvestibular reflex).

Assessment for Reflex:

Babinski's reflex

Corneal reflex

Gag reflex

Assessment for Meningeal Irritation:

Brudzinski's sign

Kernig's sign

Glasgow coma scale ( 1-15):

Motor response points (1-6)

Verbal response points (1-5)

Eye-opening points (1-4)

wow thats so awesome, thank you for the peak and troughs! Well, guess what? My NCLEX is in just 4 days and I finally bought a Kaplan Qbank last night and was only scoring between 50-60%. I have studied for 3 and a half weeks straight and thoguht the other day that I dont even know what % Im scoring... I thought the questions on Kaplan were written really poorly and so I got a bit confused on a lot of them when they word it all weird.. so now Im freaking out that if Im only scoring that then Im not going to poass NCLEX even though Ive studied my brains out... WTH??????!!!!! AHHHHHH Im going crazy now ... and my confidence is clear down ..

Hi

I agree about Kaplan wording the questions ...wierd..just cant figure out what they are really asking sometimes.... but most of recent nclex takers say ..kaplan is closest to the test so go figure....

Heart julz... dont pay attention to the scores rather to the rationales...all the best..

:oTalked ot my class mate this morning, he is the first out of our class to take NCLEX, I was anxious to hear what he had to say and he called me telling me it was extremely hard. And there were whacko ques. he had never even heard of. Some had religious things, off the wall calculations... he got As in school while I was more like high C -B in school, and my first 90% was in Peds. (go figure! when I dont plan to work peds.) so if hes saying that then Im even more worried ... and to top it off he decided to take the HESI on monday as well as a nclex review prep... I did neither of those and studied on my own hoping for more gratification, but now maybe I made a mistake ... I guess I shoudl have just spent the money?
