omg! theres an opening for Feb1!! thats this friday, I am tempted to schedule it and get it over with...... i need advice.... i really think i am ready, but i didnt finish all of my kaplan stuff.... hmmmmm

Thank you so much for your kind words. *hugs*

My advice to you ;) is that if you feel like you're ready, then you should go for it. Delaying it more might make you go crazy. *lol*

Nursing Responsibilities in Insulin Therapy:

Route: Subcutaneous - do not massage site of injection

- slow absorption

IV - DKA

- only regular insulin

Administer @ room temp - cold insulin can cause Lipodystrophy

Rotate the site of injection - prevent Lipodystrophy

Storage: Used - room temp

Unopened/Unused - refrigerated

Gently roll vial in between the palms to redistribute insulin particles - DO NOT shake

I have some notes; sorry if Im off the subject, but these are mostly key points;

Most common problems maintaining IV acess sites---infiltration/phlebitis for both d/c line and apply warm compresses

Cholesterol HDL (good H for happy), LDL, Trglicerides --Key components to M.I., athersclerosis, CAD labs to keep

Liver labs-ALP--enzyme produced mainly in liver and bone dx of liver and bone disease values 42-136U/I

ALT/SGOT assists in detecting liver disorders such as viral hepatitis, necrosis of liver, drug/chem toxicity, alcohol intox.,cancer

ALT/SGOT- along with CK and LDH help detect M.I.--heart and muscle damage

I gotta run to Chem. class so I can do more later... hope this helps...
