More and more hospitals are making the flu shot mandatory. Seasoned nurses are being threatened to lose their jobs if they do not take it or they are forced to wear a mask while doing patient care for the entire flu season. Is this a violation of HIPPA. Patients will know that that nurse has not had a flu shot when they see the mask. Do you think that the flu shot should be mandatory or should nurses have the right to refuse just like the patients have a right to refuse?

If it is a school question (and I'm thinking it might be), I would be a bit curious to hear the discussion in class about the discussion. First, did the school write out "HIPPA" [sic] on the assignment sheet? Also, are they going to refute the idea that wearing a mask is a violation of a nurse's nonexistent HIPAA rights? For that matter, are they teaching students that HIPAA covers the employee when they are not a patient?

In that way, yes, I feel it is a violation of HIPAA. What I do or don't do medically should not be on public display.

Just two things.

Regarding your HIPAA comment . ... .YOU disclosed the reason for wearing the mask. No privacy rights were violated. No one else walked up to the person asking you about the mask and said "She/He refused to get immunized against influenza".

And you aren't the patient here by the way.

Now you have really jumped the shark. Maybe the same people who mandated a flu shot mandated you to come to this thread and post something with no evidence to support flimsy claims? When losing a debate, accuse the others of being bullies.

When facing clear indications that the others are more correct in their statements than you, just say they aren't. "Because I said" is also a valid counter argument.

When being called out for posting false information, insist it is really your OPINION about the fact, and therefore valid.

When being asked to provide facts to back up claims, accuse the asker of harrassment.

When asked to provide evidence that statements presented as facts ARE facts, not opinions.....repeat the above.

It is incorrect when you say that the flu vaccine doesn't cover influenza A, which I provided the evidence that it covers A and B. There are however multiple strains/mutations that it does not cover.

Not forgetting this little nugget; none of these potential CODs has a vaccine available to prevent it like, say....influenza. And if they did.....you can bet people would line up for those shots no matter what naysayers think.

Yes, but andi78 claims that calling a flu related pneumonia a flu death is a lie. If you get pneumonia while battling the flu, you have NOT died of the flu.

Which of course means that my Grandfather did not die of multiple myeloma, he died of hypercalcemia. My friend died of cardiac arrest, not leukemia. And there is no such thing as a death from AIDS. You merely die of whatever variety of normally benign infection you got unlucky enough to contract.
