Anyone else out there a dedicated gym head that is also a nurse. get at me.

Got accepted into a nursing program @ ca will start on Jan. I hope i'll be able to stay fit and go to the gym. If not I'll probably go crazy @_@

Starting RN program in a little over a week, and am very concerned about having enough time to stay fit. I usually just rely on surfing for my exercise, but I'm not sure how much time I'll have to get to the beach now because of school. But I just picked up this AMAZING surf-related fitness DVD for Christmas. Not sure how many other surfing nurses will come upon this post, but either way, its a great way for anyone to stay fit from home: Amazon.com: Rip Curl & Taylor Knox Present

RIGHT HERE BABY

Hey bud,

that's great.....I think you've just inspired me to get back into weights and stuff....and general fitness. put on some weight....and tbh...feeling ratshit because of it......can't wait to finish doing the CNA shifts doing atm in a nursing home....atm they are turning me around the bend. Had enough....and my self-esteem is negative. It'd be great to blow off some steam whilst at the gym.

Specializes in RN.

yes! rediscovered working out at the end of 2010. I used to be a marathoner 15 yrs ago....had some health issues and pretty much got lazy. Just started the weights in January and love it! Back into running also, and jumping rope is one h**l of a workout! Exercise and weights are paramount in helping me maintain some sanity. Will graduate with my RN in December, and I am actually hitting the floor tonight to orient for my first LPN job! Think I am going to go run right now!!

Yes.

I don't focus a lot on lifting... I'm already big enough, don't really want to bulk up any more.

I bought a roadbike this last year and love riding, I also swim laps when the weather is appropriate (talk about a total body workout!)

sup fellas? just accepted into ABSN program. Big time weight lifter try to have nutrition dialed in as well.

Specializes in Mental Health; Medical-Surgical/Trauma.

Some of these posts are quite inspiring on staying in shape.

I like to get out on a long walk/short run with my son who is 15 months. I've also started weight training 3 times a week. A bike would make things even better!

Ok so I'm a girl but I had to get in on this!!! I am a retired Olympic Weightlifter and now train MMA.....I must work out...it's who I am. I start my BSN in Sept and can't find anything about female nursing students hitting the gym....or having time to hit the gym.....it freaks me out! I here a lot about gaining weight as a nursing student....NO! Anyways, glad to hear you guys are still training.....I won't be the only one :)

Hey guys, I will startiglng school soon and wanted some opinions. I'm a regular gym rat and need to lift four days a week at least to feel normal haha. How did/do you guys balance a bodybuilding lifestyle (ie: working out, eating regular meala, rest) with nursing school? I'm single with no kids, but I will be working 20 to 25 hours a week to help pay bills and stuff, might take out small loans to help reduce my work hours a bit but wont be quitting my job completely. As long as im able to maintain working out 4 to 5 times a week and getting my regular healthy food intake I shouls be golden. The gym is just a huge part of my life and I dont want to give it up. Any advice or thoughts? Balance is key and planning ahead will no doubt help, I just dont really know what to expecy in nursi.g achool in terms of workload and school/work/life balance. PS: sorry for typos, I typed this on my phone haha

I feel you bro...what I do is a 3 day split with a lot of supersets (e.g. chest/shoulders, arms/back, legs). I try to keep my lifting to an hour max (supersets help a ton), with maybe 20 min of cardio after. Its extremely hard to keep it up in the gym while doing the nursing thing, but I found overtime that if I tried to do my 5 day split, on top of a 24 hr/week plus nursing, I tend to overtrain due to lack of sleep. 3 days a week allows me to get the sleep in on top of my work schedule and school.

As far as food goes, the slow cooker is your best friend. Saves a lot of time you can use to study and sleep. I usually cook a big batch of food when I know I'll be crunched for time (e.g. 2 back to back 12 hour shifts, followed by an early morning class on the third day).

Hope this gives you some insight
