I am taking all of my prereq's for BSN degree. Chemistry happens to be one of them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to learn it a little better. (Any type of books, sparknotes, etc.)
Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

someone in my bio class last semester had the sparknotes and liked it. There are some great videos on youtube. Are there specific things that you are having concerns about?

Know your basic algebra and you should be fine. Inorganic chem takes a little critical thinking as well, so as long as you can do your basic algebra, can critically think, follow directions (for those labs!) and memorize some elements then you should be fine.

I think getting a tutor in ur school or someone in your class is very very helpful! I went from a D to a B+ bcos I went to tutoring very often and also studied with people in my class who were doing well

Get a good prof. ask around for which one teaches and tests the way that you like. If you are a good multiple choice test taker don't take a prof. that gives you an essay test.... and so on. If you are already in a class with a prof. you hate ask another prof. for special permission to switch, most will not turn you down. Don't hurt your gpa because you can't learn a certain way. Save those B and C grades for later, it only takes two to screw your gpa.

I use a lot of podcasts for this kind of thing. I load them to my iPod and take them to the gym, listen to them in the car, etc. There are several very good ones available for nearly all subjects available from iTunes, and th best part is that they are all free.
I find this very helpful, I can put it on and listen and I find that its an excellent adjunct to lecture or lab, reiterating and reinforcing what I am getting firsthand.

OMG! I had the same dilemma when I was a student. Chemistry and I are just incompatible period. I'm a straight-A student all throughout high school and never had a failing grade, and when I got into nursing school, I was having the worst time ever with this subject!!! I was studying too hard, up too late every night and doing everything, and still my exams are failing! I even had tutorial lessons for it believe me. I just couldn't get it. But I was not alone, most of my classmates where the same, only few "geniuses" emerged and actually passed the tests. What I did: I actually talked to my professor in private, and asked her for some advice about my situation. She was actually smiling and said that my grades will get better, if I just study harder. I told her that I WAS studying harder! In the end, I passed. Thank God! If not for perseverance and prayers. Fyi, wait til you get to organic chemistry, hah! You'll totally scream!!!
It will get better, I promise you. You just have to survive this course. And you will, just work hard. Ask some friend to tutor you if you can. Helps a lot.
Good Luck! :)
Thanks everyone for the responses. So many people in my class are having a hard time comprehending the lectures, so I know it's not just me. We haven't had our first test yet. I think it's in 2 weeks. He says it's basically our homework, so if we do our homework we should be fine. We shall see. I ordered a book kind of like spark notes. It had a lot of great reviews.
Everyone is mentioning organic chemisty. I don't think we have to take that. This is our only chemistry class...thankfully.

I agree with the chemistry4kids.com. When I took CHM last semester I always did a search on the internet for the subject matter. View all the results and find ones that are easy to understand. I found that most of the websites for children and even colleges were very helpful. I also checked out the Chemistry for Dummies book from the library. Huge help! Memorize, memorize, memorize!

I love the "Dummies" series of books...I haven't taken Chemistry yet (but I did buy the "Chemistry for Dummies" already)...but I swear they have helped me get 98% in both Biology and both A&P's......
