Major issues with Chemisry!!!

Published

I am taking all of my prereq's for BSN degree. Chemistry happens to be one of them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to learn it a little better. (Any type of books, sparknotes, etc.)

Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

Well, you really don't make it easy to help you with a response like that. It sounds as though you may have already raised your hands in the air in surrender, and are giving up. Perhaps this is the result of feeling lost with the material. If this is the case, I suspect your grasp of the previous chapters and concepts were not understood well enough to accumulate a good fundamental foundation to grasp newer concepts. If it is not too late, you might want to consider taking a W for the course and try retaking the class again with a fresh start, determination, and a new plan of attack. This alternative may be better than putting a ding on your GPA.

For the hands on approach, the best advice I can give is put your hands on a pencil, work the problems at the end of the chapters to the point of nauseam. Join a study group, see campus chem dept. tutors.

The best tool of a chemist is the periodic table of the elements. http://www.chemicool.com/ so the better understanding you have of how this table works and all the information it gives about the elements, the better off you will be.

Well, good luck and hope you the best. Don't let this class discourage you.

I haven't given up. I really want to pass this class. When I said I didn't know what was giving me trouble..i just don't know what's it's called.

I thought about dropping the class but we are penalized for dropping classes. It is highly discouraged.

I'm going to get my books out over the school break and dig it. I think part of it was that I didn't think it required a lot of time. I did study but not like I do for my other classes. I have learned my lesson.

After I go through my notes and book I'll let you know if I'm still and having trouble and with what.

Thanks for your posts.

Study groups help a lot. Find someone in your class who likes chemistry and who is good at it and get a group together once a week and study. You'll need the stuff you learn in chemistry in other classes like micro and A&P so it's a good idea to learn it right the first time.

Break the concepts down into steps to help you learn it. Look online and see if there's another way to learn something that your professor is trying to teach you. Sometimes if something is explained in a different way, it makes more sense.

Chemistry takes a lot of practice. Ask the teacher for extra problems to work on if you need to. I know having a lot of problems to practice on is what helped to drill the concepts into my head.

Good luck!
