Oh, goodness, the dreaded surveyors will be in today. I have seen the most ridiculous antics by our sorry administrators in the 11th hour.
1. I was outside having my cigarette break, and within 20 minutes, I saw banners placed outside with pictures of staff and head nurses (including their full names and departments). Looked like a hall of flags. Many of the nurses were outraged, because they did not give permission for their likeness to be plastered so large that any car on the parkway can see their image, full name, and department they worked for.
2. The administrators were running around with vases of live floral arrangements and placed them EVERYWHERE, including front desks and hallways. Some of the patients and staff with allergies were damned near choking to death.
3. Charge nurse calls administration to ask for an additional nurse. Response: "What is a one word adjective to describe your CNO"? Charge nurse says "****, if she doesn't send me another staff member". Second call from another clinic for the same reason; response is "What is the 14th Force of Magnet"? It is like if you can answer a trivia question, you can get what you want.
4. 5:00pm, signs everywhere in our clinic demanding that we come in tomorrow morning at 8:00am. Period.
5. Message to our clinic; "They are arriving to you guys at 12:00. Do not see patients for that time". I mean, I thought we were here for patient care. Also, they cut down the panel to have less patients for the next three days. I feel sorry for the ones that need a refill for their meds.
I am so sick of this fake mess; they are not acknowledging the LPNs except to crowd a room. I am an LPN, and I have no issue that Magnet is geared towards the RNs, and I am not a bitter LPN. However, I do feel that one of those banners should have had an LPN's likeness on it (with her permission, of course...and I would not have volunteered). It is basically saying that we are the step children.
Wish me luck, guys, I'm goin' in to battle:angryfire:angryfire It is like a college hazing, and we were told that we may not get official word of the results for three months. Merry Christmas to the butt-holes.
UGH!, my facility has submitted the paperwork and are awaiting the visit:trout:. I dread them speaking to me, after working for a wonderful magnet hospital, mine just doesn't get it or really understand what it means, it does not deserve it.Do I want them to fail? No, I want them to become a magnet philosophy facility, not just lip service, will I help them "fail"? They already have by not understanding and changing, I'm just going to answer any questions honestly and let the "surveyors" decide, not my fight.
I hope you don't get harassed and get through the shift. It's not that tough of a spot to be in if you get pegged for the inquisition, simply ask to speak with them in private. I just dread hating to be the one that is left to speak honestly about the failure, when we could be so much more with a bit of vision and change.
Well...it gets more comical...they cancelled and we do not know when they will return. One of the surveyors got sick (hope she gets better), but, now, it is prolonging the agony.
Oh and I felt the same as you, as far as wishing that my hospital didn't pass... I was just SO sick and tired of all the hype over it... and as far as I could tell, the whole Magnet thing never did improve anything as far as staffing, patient care, etc...
I don't know if they ever eventually got it or not... I'm assuming that if they did, it would be all over the television and local newspapers.

Oh, I literally thought your husband was kidding!.... oh the agony of the wait:uhoh3: Get the dinner show over with so we can go back to patient care already:idea:

:lol2:I thought he was joking, too...he teases me mercilessly when he knows I am stressed out about stupid things. I had him put his boss on the phone, because he would not have lied to me. Well, I got here, and sure enough...the magicians disappeared to take care of their injured one. I understand that they had a host of food, but nothing was even offered to us or the supportive staff for the hard work and stress. But, they will do this again in a few weeks, I am sure. The patient census in our clinic was greatly reduced, meanwhile, these poor people could have come in and received their care.
Well, I guess we'll get new scripts for next time...
Wonder if they'll take the banners down outside or put new faces up next time?
That sounds like a primo place to work.
I worked at a hospital that applied for magnet status once, and after the application was submitted, we never heard any more about it. Suffice it to say that even though they thought that they were magnet material, they WERE NOT!

One word:
Montana!
In the meantime, here's your own little banner to hang up for your special guests :)

What a funny day! They cut down the panel for our patients who had appointments in our clinic, so, we were basically acting like silly kids. I only saw three today. Jokes flying, and all. I guess they will tell us of the new date as soon as they know...it will be like Chicken Little..."The sky IS falling..." yeah, RIGHT. They're gonna catch us with our pants down if they take more than a few weeks.:lol2:
you know, pagan, they really can see through all the b.s.
don't you think surveyors will recognize that lpns deserve as much recognition as rns?
that every hcw is a part of the team?
these people know what they're looking for.
(i hope i'm not being naive)
just stay true to yourself and your pts.
the things you write of, are laughable.
