Magnet...They're Here...

Oh, goodness, the dreaded surveyors will be in today. I have seen the most ridiculous antics by our sorry administrators in the 11th hour.

1. I was outside having my cigarette break, and within 20 minutes, I saw banners placed outside with pictures of staff and head nurses (including their full names and departments). Looked like a hall of flags. Many of the nurses were outraged, because they did not give permission for their likeness to be plastered so large that any car on the parkway can see their image, full name, and department they worked for.

2. The administrators were running around with vases of live floral arrangements and placed them EVERYWHERE, including front desks and hallways. Some of the patients and staff with allergies were damned near choking to death.

3. Charge nurse calls administration to ask for an additional nurse. Response: "What is a one word adjective to describe your CNO"? Charge nurse says "****, if she doesn't send me another staff member". Second call from another clinic for the same reason; response is "What is the 14th Force of Magnet"? It is like if you can answer a trivia question, you can get what you want.

4. 5:00pm, signs everywhere in our clinic demanding that we come in tomorrow morning at 8:00am. Period.

5. Message to our clinic; "They are arriving to you guys at 12:00. Do not see patients for that time". I mean, I thought we were here for patient care. Also, they cut down the panel to have less patients for the next three days. I feel sorry for the ones that need a refill for their meds.

I am so sick of this fake mess; they are not acknowledging the LPNs except to crowd a room. I am an LPN, and I have no issue that Magnet is geared towards the RNs, and I am not a bitter LPN. However, I do feel that one of those banners should have had an LPN's likeness on it (with her permission, of course...and I would not have volunteered). It is basically saying that we are the step children.

Wish me luck, guys, I'm goin' in to battle:angryfire:angryfire It is like a college hazing, and we were told that we may not get official word of the results for three months. Merry Christmas to the butt-holes.

Oh I feel your pain. That is why I like surveyors to call in unannounced. They get to see the true picture then eh?

Shouldn't have to run around like that to make an impression and really Surveyors can see right through all of that puff and fluff stuff! ;)

These folks are coming from out of town. I hate to say it, but I really hope they do not get it. Of course, I would not wish to be known as a contributing factor of their demise (I'd have to worry about future attacks), but otherwise, FAIL THEM, I tell you, FAIL THEM.

Next, they can make banners of the administrators that were...and fly them at 1/2 staff.:angryfire

managment staff likeness on flags....ridiculous. substance over fluff is what they are looking for.

magnet reviewers can see the bull and overdone propaganda, especially money spent that could have been used better by investing in staffing/patient resources. several facilities did not receive this award after they could not prove they had a seat at decision making table at administrative level through all levels of organization or that registered nurses had true impact in improving quality patient care and nursing standards.

the magnet recognition program is based on quality indicators and standards of nursing practice as defined in the american nurses association's scope and standards for nurse administrators (2004). the scope and standards for nurse administrators and other "foundational documents" form the base upon which the magnet environment is built. the magnet designation process includes the appraisal of qualitative factors in nursing. these factors, referred to as " forces of magnetism" were first identified through research done in 1983.

the full expression of the forces embodies a professional environment guided by a strong visionary nursing leader who advocates and supports development and excellence in nursing practice. as a natural outcome of this, the program elevates the reputation and standards of the nursing profession.

Well, GUESS what...

They cancelled!!! Got a call from my husband, who works nights (not a nurse) and told me that one of the surveyors took ill, and they cancelled in order to fly her back home. I didn't believe him, because he teases me frequently. Talk about LAUGHTER!!! It is like a party, here!

Maybe she came and got sick off of the flowers (allergies), or the phony antics. It does prolong the torture, but, for now, just give us today...

Oh, and P.S....I do hope that the surveyor is okay...(seriously).

They also had staff nurses; but it is still ridiculous... I just can't get over the live floral arrangements!! I mean, we have patients (and staff) with allergies, neutropenic patients visiting the chemotherapy clinics, glass vases for children to break...I mean, COME ON!!

Now, I have to change my thread to Magnet...They're Here...to Magnet...where did they go??? :lol2::lol2:

UGH!, my facility has submitted the paperwork and are awaiting the visit:trout:. I dread them speaking to me, after working for a wonderful magnet hospital, mine just doesn't get it or really understand what it means, it does not deserve it.

Do I want them to fail? No, I want them to become a magnet philosophy facility, not just lip service, will I help them "fail"? They already have by not understanding and changing, I'm just going to answer any questions honestly and let the "surveyors" decide, not my fight.

I hope you don't get harassed and get through the shift. It's not that tough of a spot to be in if you get pegged for the inquisition, simply ask to speak with them in private. I just dread hating to be the one that is left to speak honestly about the failure, when we could be so much more with a bit of vision and change.
