Nursing now for 28 years, many patients have touched my heart. This week I got to care for a patient for a full week +. 88 years old and the first thing he said was "she's a lefty, I'm in good hands." He told me day after day that he appreciated my care but the one thing he said which I treasure is..."you were meant to be a nurse."
I just wanted to share something that happened to me today. I was in the drive thru at burger king getting my boss some food when they asked me to pull forward because it was gonna take a little bit longer. The manager came out smiling with the food and said are you a nurse? I was in my scrubs from work. I said no sir but I hope to be soon when I graduate! He said "Well I just wanted to tell you how wonderful nurses are. I had to go the ER last week for the first time ever for pancreatitis. Me being almost 38 and my first time I was not a very good patient! I was scared but the nurses aids and nurses there were so great. I will never forget my nurse, she was the sweetest nicest lady I have ever met. I just wanted to thank you and tell you that nurses are appreciated!" He was smiling from ear to ear the whole time. I drove away smiling and even though I'm not a nurse yet it's people like that who remind you why you love your job and why you chose nursing in the first place. :)

While having dinner with friends at a nice restaurant, a former patient who spotted me there, sent me a bottle of wine...which prompted my best friend to say: "uh?? so, I guess you are a good nurse...".
Somehow I don't give out that vibe :doh:
My mom met an older lady in town one day who she hadn't seen in ages. The lady asked my mom what I was doing in college and she said i was training to be a nurse. The lady replied that she would say a prayer because'' nurses are Gods angels''. Regardless to whether one is religious or not I just think it was so sweet that she thought that nurses are that special. We are appreciated! :-)
