Macon State BSN Fall 2011

Published

Anyone out there applied for MSC BSN program for Fall 2011? I was wondering what the timeline is for receiving acceptances. From previous posts on this site, it looks like we may not hear anything until April, even though registration begins in March (I think). Does anyone know how many applicants versus how many acceptances they have each year?

Also, are there any MSC students currently in the BSN program? I am interested to know what you think of the program. Finally, I was wondering how difficult it will be to work while enrolled. I have a daytime job with flexible hours (~25 hours per week). I currently work M-F and plan to continue the position while in the program, but will have the option of changing days/hours around, if needed. How time-consuming is the BSN program, including clinicals and labs? Will it be possible to work 20-25 hours while attending?

Thank you both so much! I will be hoping the best for you terralynn!! Hopefully it will be in the mail by tomorrow!! Or at the very latest Saturday! Yeah I kinda got the feeling on the phone they were just saying towards the end of the month as a general answer for anyone who calls so they wont get frantic phone calls all the time. So I guess I will just keep checking the mail and hoping for the best!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board. I found this thread while trying to google information about Macon State's nursing program and the amount of time it takes to get acceptance letters. Sounds like most of you all are in the same boat as me, impatiently waiting for that letter. I applied for the ASN program. I have a B.S. already in Health care Admin, so I was only lacking ap 1 & 2 and micro. My adviser told me to go ahead and apply although my chances of getting in would be slim because I had not yet completed all my required sciences. She did say that because I already had a degree, it could be an advantage. I don't know, sometimes I feel like they just tell you whatever you want to hear at that moment. I'm currently taking ap 1 and I'm passing(thank GOD), I'm registered for Micro this summer(yay me). I'm anxious regardless of what my adviser said. Has anyone gotten accepted still lacking some sciences or does anyone know anyone who was accepted and had not yet completed all their required sciences? The wait is killing me, I just want to know already. Congrats to all of you who've gotten accepted into a nursing program so far. I have my fingers crossed and I'm praying for everyone else as well as myself.:smackingf

I was accepted into the first BSN class at MSC in the Fall of 2009. I will graduate this May 2011.

Hi,

Welcome dkwmom and lifeslilangel38! Dkwmom, I met an ASN student from MSC that only had a&p1 when she got accepted. I think anything is possible! Keep your hopes up and if it doesn't happen, consider the ASN and BSN for next time. If you already have a BS degree from an accredited college, most of the BSN requirements for entrance are waived, so the courses needed are very similar to the ASN req's.

Lifeslilangel38, congratulations on your upcoming graduation!! :yeah::yeah:We are all anxious to know anything you can share about the program. Since I just got an increased work schedule for the summer months (one day after reserving a slot in the summer 3200 course), I'm worried about the workload for that class in particular.

But also, How many uniforms do you recommend that we order? I went online to look at them, and they are awful. I think ASN and BSN students all have the same uniform, so your advice on this will help us all. Can we wear any white pants or do they have to be those? And what about the top??? Is the plain white scrub top for girls and guys or do the females all wear the zip up tunic? I see MSC nursing students at work all the time and it seems like the women are always in the zip tunic tops. For some crazy hopeful reason, I was certain someone would rethink the design for next year. Oh well...

Finally, I have gotten nervous (reading many nursing threads), that it seems common for students to fail tests and clinicals. Did any of your classmates have this happen?? Thanks in advance for any info you can give us!!! ;)

Well, I got my letter today and I was accepted :yeah:!! I am so excited!!! It is such a relief to know!

My letter says the orientation is July 14th, is that what you have Nicubee? I haven't yet been to any of the websites so I haven't seen the uniforms. Hopefully they are at least comfortable? I would like to take the summer NURS 3200 though I am already going to be taking biology and I need to take at least 12 hours in the fall.

I am praying for you, Lvance7 and Dkwmom :). The only course I still need is Bio1002K. So, sorry I do not know about needing to complete the other courses (A&P, micro) before applying. I think having a B.S. already is sure to help you.

I look forward to meeting you guys :yeah:!!!

Thank you so much Terralynn!!!

CONGRATS!!!!!!!:w00t:

Congratulations Terralynn!! :yeah:I am so happy for you! It's really exciting (and scary too)!! I'll be doing the summer course because I don't need to be full time in the fall and an easier schedule will work better for me. They did post the date as July 14 in the letter, but on the check-off sheet it has 6/22. Please ask them to verify the correct date so you are not relying on what they told me (in case I have my information wrong). Let me know what they tell you.

Everyone else-- I am keeping you in my thoughts!! The waiting is sooo hard!

Thanks guys!!

Yes, I need to call them about that and I also had a question too about the requirements they are saying I still need. I should only need Bio so hopefully it is also a mistake. I will let you know.

Nicubee, where are the clinicals held? You said you see them at your work. I have not been to Macon much, mainly just Warner Robins.

Have any of you read this book or one similar? I read it and liked it. There is a lot of good info in it.

Terralynn, I know that some clinicals are held at MCCG, but I don't know where else we will be going. On page one of this thread calhoun mentioned a few places like the health department. I don't know where that is. I'm sure they will send us to a variety of locations. I think they split us into small clinical groups and we rotate around, but that is just my assumption and may not be correct.

I haven't seen the book you refer to, but I am interested in it and will follow the link. Thanks! Did you reserve your slot?

Yes, I mailed off the form and payment this morning. I needed to use FedEx to make sure it gets there on time. I wanted it to get there by Tuesday just to be safe. I wonder if there are any other students that currently live out of state. I called the office today with my questions though because it is Friday they closed at noon. Thank you for the info about clinicals. I think the first class we start them is in BSN Fundamental Concepts. I remember looking at the course descriptions and it mentioned something like that.

Has anyone else heard back from the school yet?

Congratulations, too, Lifeslilangel38 on your graduation! Have you enjoyed the program? Which have been your favorite courses? I know we could all use some advice :).

still nothing! Guess will wait til next week and hope for something!!

I hope you get something this week!!!
