Relocating to Chattanooga, inquiring about new grad pay
Hello everyone, My husband will be separating from the military next year and I will be graduating with my BSN from Macon State College in Georgia. He is from Chattanooga and we would like to move there after he separates. I am trying to figure out the cost of living and how much new grads make at Erlanger and Memorial. I tried to find this information on their sites but it is not public information. Does anyone have updated information for the staff nurse pay rates for these hospitals? Also I just started as a nurse extern on a med-surg floor so I am not sure if this could count towards experience. Any information would be greatly appreciated ! Thank you.

Macon State BSN Fall 2011
Yes, I mailed off the form and payment this morning. I needed to use FedEx to make sure it gets there on time. I wanted it to get there by Tuesday just to be safe. I wonder if there are any other students that currently live out of state. I called the office today with my questions though because it is Friday they closed at noon. Thank you for the info about clinicals. I think the first class we start them is in BSN Fundamental Concepts. I remember looking at the course descriptions and it mentioned something like that. Has anyone else heard back from the school yet? Congratulations, too, Lifeslilangel38 on your graduation! Have you enjoyed the program? Which have been your favorite courses? I know we could all use some advice :).

Macon State BSN Fall 2011
Thanks guys!! Yes, I need to call them about that and I also had a question too about the requirements they are saying I still need. I should only need Bio so hopefully it is also a mistake. I will let you know. Nicubee, where are the clinicals held? You said you see them at your work. I have not been to Macon much, mainly just Warner Robins. Have any of you read this book or one similar? I read it and liked it. There is a lot of good info in it. http://www.amazon.com/Survive-Maybe-Even-Nursing-Schoo/dp/0803618298/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1302278222&sr=1-2

Macon State BSN Fall 2011
Well, I got my letter today and I was accepted !! I am so excited!!! It is such a relief to know! My letter says the orientation is July 14th, is that what you have Nicubee? I haven't yet been to any of the websites so I haven't seen the uniforms. Hopefully they are at least comfortable? I would like to take the summer NURS 3200 though I am already going to be taking biology and I need to take at least 12 hours in the fall. I am praying for you, Lvance7 and Dkwmom :). The only course I still need is Bio1002K. So, sorry I do not know about needing to complete the other courses (A&P, micro) before applying. I think having a B.S. already is sure to help you. I look forward to meeting you guys !!!

Yah, the letters might be sent sooner, like the BSN letters. So hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer. Well, nothing from the school today . I figured it would probably be at least Thursday before I received anything.

Congratulations Nicubee ! Woohoo. And thank you for all the great information! I am glad they were able to sort out the course mistakes on your intake packet. If you got your packet yesterday, maybe I will get something today. The mail has not been by yet. Congrats, again, I am very happy for you!

You don't think they will send a letter if you didn't get in? I hope they would send a letter either way so we don't keep frantically checking the mail.

Do any of you know where clinicals are held? Are they at MCCG? I have never been there, but I read it is the second largest hospital in GA. Do you know which semester we would start clinicals? I know some of the courses are taught in lab (at least at first). I just finished reading this book last week: http://www.amazon.com/Survive-Maybe-Even-Nursing-Schoo/dp/0803618298/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1302018220&sr=1-1. It gives a lot of good advice and resources for nursing students & nurses. Are any of you looking forward to clinical? I am because I like hands-on learning.

Yes, I hope we find out something anytime now. We just got back from being away for a week and our mail has not been delivered yet. I am anxiously awaiting it even though I know there is nothing from MSC, haha. I hope you are all staying busy to help the time pass :). I am praying for us :)!!

I agree, it would be better to have the application process more rounded. GPA and TEAS scores should only be part of the equation when determining if someone will make a good nurse. From threads I have read on here, it looks like they conducted interviews in past years. Sometimes I wonder why it might take the school until May to reach their decisions, but I think I am just overthinking it . I know they probably let students know as soon as they are able. From what you guys are saying, it sounds like they are pretty busy. I would like to work in pediatrics (I've heard the NICU is a great place to work) though I don't feel I have enough experience yet to know for sure which area I would like to be in. I love children :redpinkhe so I hope I can work in that position. I don't really have a back-up plan. I would probably re-apply the following year as well. I was thinking of maybe trying psychology in the meantime; I need to get my bachelor's in something. It will be very hard for me if I don't get in this year because my husband and I are waiting until I finish school to start trying to have children, and many times I feel torn between the two. I really don't want to add another year of waiting. I know it makes the most sense to wait. If I don't get in though we have talked about maybe trying to have a child. So I guess that is part of my back-up plan. Right now waiting to find out is the hardest part.
