Macon State BSN Fall 2011

Published

Anyone out there applied for MSC BSN program for Fall 2011? I was wondering what the timeline is for receiving acceptances. From previous posts on this site, it looks like we may not hear anything until April, even though registration begins in March (I think). Does anyone know how many applicants versus how many acceptances they have each year?

Also, are there any MSC students currently in the BSN program? I am interested to know what you think of the program. Finally, I was wondering how difficult it will be to work while enrolled. I have a daytime job with flexible hours (~25 hours per week). I currently work M-F and plan to continue the position while in the program, but will have the option of changing days/hours around, if needed. How time-consuming is the BSN program, including clinicals and labs? Will it be possible to work 20-25 hours while attending?

Madnessisay did the advisor reiterate when letters would go out? And did she tell you about how many applicants they had this semester?

No. She did not. I have been told that there are over 300 applicants for each degree program: ASN and BSN. I have heard that it could be April and some have said it could be May for BSN...

good luck, girls... I think we need it!

That is kind of where I am at right now too, thinking about back up plans. I think one of the reasons I am so stressed and worried is because I don't really have one. I applied to both also and at this point would be more than happy if I got into either one. I obviously really want BSN, but will definitely take ASN if I have to. But if I don't get into either I don't know what I am going to do and what direction to go in..this is really what I want. I guess my next step would be reapplying, looking into other schools, maybe retaking a class or two to get better grades. Just one day at a time...

I think the hardest part is not knowing much about how many applicants there are and the application process in general. Also not knowing what GPA and TEAS test scores are competitive for admission, but I guess at this point we can't really change those things. Just have to hope for the best. I'm just ready for the waiting to be over, I pray we don't have to wait until May to find out ! Thats way toooo long!!!!

I think MSC's process a little harder than some schools because the GPA and TEAS are very impersonal and data-based, and the MSC application is basically name and address only. The selection committee has no real way to get to know each applicant to identify those who would be great candidates. And we do not get the chance to present ourselves on a more personal-basis to the committee.

Great scores do not always identify the best students because they don't measure empathy, stress-management, logic, or other unquantifiable qualities that are necessary for nursing. Or someone could have the potential to make a great nurse, but not get the opportunity because they have slightly lower scores.

It's not that I wanted the stress of an essay or interview as part of the application process, but at least that would have been a way to present something besides numbers to the selection committee. :o

I agree, it would be better to have the application process more rounded. GPA and TEAS scores should only be part of the equation when determining if someone will make a good nurse. From threads I have read on here, it looks like they conducted interviews in past years. Sometimes I wonder why it might take the school until May to reach their decisions, but I think I am just overthinking it . I know they probably let students know as soon as they are able. From what you guys are saying, it sounds like they are pretty busy.

I would like to work in pediatrics (I've heard the NICU is a great place to work) though I don't feel I have enough experience yet to know for sure which area I would like to be in. I love children :redpinkhe so I hope I can work in that position.

I don't really have a back-up plan. I would probably re-apply the following year as well. I was thinking of maybe trying psychology in the meantime; I need to get my bachelor's in something. It will be very hard for me if I don't get in this year because my husband and I are waiting until I finish school to start trying to have children, and many times I feel torn between the two. I really don't want to add another year of waiting. I know it makes the most sense to wait. If I don't get in though we have talked about maybe trying to have a child. So I guess that is part of my back-up plan.

Right now waiting to find out is the hardest part.

Your back-up plan (the having a baby part) sounds great, Terralyn. That would be a real diversion-- trust me on that!!

The lack of activity on this thread in the past few days probably attests to the fact that we have all been busy with tests and projects due. I know I have! Anyway, that helps pass the time until we hear back on acceptances... :o

I agree! I think everyone has been trying to finish up this semester! I know I'm ready for it to be over, I need a break. It's not helping that I'm super nervous about getting accepted which adds to the stress! I'm sure most of you feel the same way. Well March is almost over with, maybe we will hear something in April. *Fingers crossed*

:)

Well, we made it to April. My semester is winding down-- no more big challenges until finals week. Hope everyone is getting through this semester OK. I'm thinking we could hear any time now, probably within the next few weeks. I do think we'll hear in April, judging from all the other schools that are starting to get their letters out. Good luck everyone! ;)

Hopefully at least by the end of the month we will know something! Good luck everyone!! Let me know as soon as yawl hear anything :)

Luckily I've been so busy with my Chem 1152 class and working a bit more than usual that it has been helping keep me from worrying! I agree, I think we will be hearing something in the next two or three weeks!! Good luck all of you too!!!! I will let you know if I hear anything!

Yes, I hope we find out something anytime now. We just got back from being away for a week and our mail has not been delivered yet. I am anxiously awaiting it even though I know there is nothing from MSC, haha. I hope you are all staying busy to help the time pass :). I am praying for us :)!!
