Anyone out there applied for MSC BSN program for Fall 2011? I was wondering what the timeline is for receiving acceptances. From previous posts on this site, it looks like we may not hear anything until April, even though registration begins in March (I think). Does anyone know how many applicants versus how many acceptances they have each year?
Also, are there any MSC students currently in the BSN program? I am interested to know what you think of the program. Finally, I was wondering how difficult it will be to work while enrolled. I have a daytime job with flexible hours (~25 hours per week). I currently work M-F and plan to continue the position while in the program, but will have the option of changing days/hours around, if needed. How time-consuming is the BSN program, including clinicals and labs? Will it be possible to work 20-25 hours while attending?

I am currently in the program. Will graduate July of this year. Don't worry about registration dates. They have 20 slots already assigned for the 20 students they will accept, and they do all the registering each semester. Don't remember when I got my acceptance letter. There were only 19 (not 20) in my class originally, and we lost 2 so far. They did not drop due to grades or the work load. We just lost one due to a new job schedule conflicting with class schedule. The other student was only taking assessment as a prereq for the CRNA program at Mercer she started last fall. I would recommend taking the summer assessment class. That will lighten your load in the fall and you will be so glad you did it. Classes during the first summer are on Mondays. The next 3 semesters are ALL day on Wednesdays. They are trying to make it hybrid now so you will only go every other week. They just started doing that with us this semester. Only 3 classes have clinicals. Clinicals for assessment are just on each other in the lab. Clinicals for community are at the health department and a big teaching project, which also counts for edu class, at some type of community center. You will do those on Wednesdays during your off weeks. I am not sure about clinicals for practicum this summer. A girl I work with completed the program last year and worked full time all the way through. So far I have worked full time and I work nights. It has been hard to shift sleeping schedule for class. In hindsight, I wished I had done the online program at Ga Southwestern. I am recommending that program to all my friends instead of Macon State. MOST of the classes are not that bad. A lot of projects, but all programs have that. Just stay on top of them, and you will do fine.
Thanks-- great information. I did not know that only 20 BSN students were admitted. My understanding was that the program begins in fall and I did not know that the assessment class could be taken early in summer. I will definitely do that, if it is an option. I will also try to get credit for the research methods course I already took-- that will lighten my load a little, too. The nursing advisor I met with said that it would be really challenging to work while enrolled in the BSN program. I'm sure it has been exhausting for you, but you should be really proud of your accomplishments. :)
I misread your post. I am in the RN-BSN program. They accept only 20 for that program. I looked in banner and it shows 50 slots for the generic BSN classes, so I am assuming they accept 50 students. We took the assessment class in the summer with students in the RN-BSN, generic BSN, and ADN programs that wanted to take it in the summer. Another plus for prelicensure students to take it then, you can ask the RN questions. It was a little intimidating to them in the beginning, but by the end of the class, they appreciated our advice. We also took the pharmaconutrition class in the fall with them as well. If you take assessment in the fall, you will take it only with others in your specific program. From what I heard in pharmaconutrition, the class load and projects were stressful at times. It is like that in all nursing programs. Yes, it will be hard for you to work full time and do a prelicensure program. Sorry I misinformed you earlier. Best of luck.
P.S. Get a NCLEX review book (or books) to help study for classes. The tests are NCLEX style and these books will help you prepare for them.
calhoun220, thank you so much for your response. After re-reading your info, I thought you probably were in the RN-BSN program since you can't get a pre-licensure BSN online. I'm glad to hear I can take the summer assessment class anyway. I definitely think it will be a benefit to work with students who already know the material and I will still plan to take it then, if I'm accepted. I'm also going to try to work, but not F/T. I am a prn OT and do not want to quit, if I can help it.
Thanks for all your input. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!
Anyone else out there an MSC hopeful for fall (ASN/RN-BSN/BSN) ???

Hello,
I applied to the ASN program for fall 2011, and I'm waiting too. Good luck!!

I also applied for the Fall 2011 Pre-licensure BSN. I was told by the nursing program that acceptance letters would not be sent out until May, though I am hoping they might be sent earlier. I currently live in Colorado and am moving to Warner Robins in early May.
I tried to research the acceptance rate for the program but have not been able to find anything. It is hard to wait so long to find out; I have been praying everyday! I am a little concerned regarding the fact that none of my pre-reqs are from Macon State. Some are from UGA but most are from CO. They have all been accepted by Macon State but I do not know if it makes a difference for getting into the nursing program. Does anyone know if this may adversely affect my chances?
Thank you calhoun220 for your advice. I will try to take the summer assessment class as well if I am accepted.
If anyone wants to talk about the program/getting into the program I would be greatly happy because sometimes I feel so "out of the loop" being so far away. Good luck to you both, nicubee and sharye, on getting accepted :).
I still don't have my acceptance letter either. I heard that acceptance letters won't be sent out until May also. terralynn I don't think it matters where you got your pre requsites completed, just as long as they're done. According to the advisors they are on a points system, and I don't think you get extra points for completing your pre reqs at Macon.
Thank you, Sharye, for your information. That makes me feel better. Sometimes I worry too much! Are you taking any pre-req coures this semester? I have been off this school year because of my husband's job, though if I get accepted I still need to take biology 1002 this summer at Macon State. I have one bio and one chem course; so, I have the credit for the requirement area though I found out later they need to be sequential. Will you try to take the summer assessment course? I am thinking about it but I am not sure if 8 hours of two lab courses would be too much. Hopefully an advisor can meet with me when I get there. Do you think they are helpful?
I'm glad to get a post started with MSC hopefuls (and current students). Calhoun220, your registration advice has been so helpful. THANKS!
Sharye, I currently work with a few recent grads from the MSC ASN. One of them told me that the program is challenging but do-able, if that helps... I'm not sure how many ASN students they accept each semester. Do you know when you should get your letter? I imagine we'll all know around the same time, but May will be a long wait because other schools have already begun sending their letters for fall!
terralyn, I'm glad to know you're out there also. Moving should keep you pretty busy until you hear from the school. I used to live in CO, too-- Fort Collins. I loved it there! The humidity here will blow you away compared to the arid weather there. It makes it feel much hotter when it's not. And the fact that the south shuts down with 1-2" of snow . But it's not bad here and I believe that MSC has a good program. I'm taking my last required course this semester-- political science. Strange, but my previous college work was completed in California (my home state), so I never had to take the GA state reqs they have here.
Lets keep this post going, now that there are a few of us waiting for letters. I've noticed that some schools have very active threads going as potential students. Us MSC hopefuls need to generate some excitement!
I have Microbiology to take this summer, and that's all I plan on taking. I wonder if they're tellling us May so we don't keep calling. According to some post from other semesters, it seems like they get the letters around the 2nd week in April. Oh, and the advisors are pretty helpful.

Hi! I am also a Fall 2011 hopeful! I applied to both the BSN and ASN programs and I e-mailed my adviser the other day and she told me end of March beginning of April for acceptance letters.. but who knows! I guess I will just have to check my mail like a crazy person til I find out.
Terryalynn- I'm glad to find out that they accepted your credits, I had some trouble with that last year, I was able to work it out and get them accepted it just set me back a little.
