Macomb Community Graduates 2012-13

So, I said I would start this one after orientation so we could all have one thread to talk about things under instead of 10. What did everyone think of orientation? Any un-answered questions? And what start date is everyone requesting? Yay for the new uniforms/prices!

I went to get my uniforms today, and what a hassle it was! My order wasn't there, although when I called, someone confirmed it was (I placed it the same day as our orientation). Luckily, they had 2 small tops and plenty of patches, so I was in luck...I didn't order pants from them because I was going to try to match them up with a different brand that had pants with more of a bootcut/flair cut to them... drove all the way to Ferndale to a scrub store out there..... no luck. Our uniforms are "royal blue" but they actually have a hint of navy in them when you hold them up to other true royal blues. I then tried on my small top while I was at that store, and it was HUGE. soooo.... I drove BACK out to Center and exchanged them for extra smalls and tried to get their pants... but they are out of sizes XS-M, so make sure you call them before you go to make sure they either have your order, or have gotten their shipment of smaller pants sizes.

I went to the bookstore as well, so I could get my books for the HHSC 1040 course and they do not have Standards and Scope of Nursing practice in right now. They also do not have the nursing packs in either. I currently have to wait right now to get books due to financial aid not being readily available until 9 days before classes start. However, I plan on paying for my HHSC 1040 books. I wasn't able to get my scrubs today, because they do not have any XS scrub pants in.

From my understanding, in the manual they gave us at orientation, all we need is on page #29....

1. MCC patch on each coat or uniform 2 in. below the left shoulder

2. Name badge

3. Stethoscope

4. Bandage scissors

5. Pen light

6. Watch w/ second hand (no digitals)

7. Black ball point

Granted, that's under "clinical assignment" but at the same time, there isn't a list of anything else we need, and nothing saying anything about a nursing pack....but Forensic, I know you're an October start, so did they send home something saying you'll need a nursing pack?

Also, I was looking up all the books I'll need at chegg.com to rent them, because I don't plan on keeping any from the HHSC class unless they're really important, and half of them weren't even in stock there yet... so it seems like no one has them yet...

The guy at the book store said that we needed a nurse pack. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. I haven't gotten anything in the mail. I'm completely aware of what's listed on page 29, but wanted to let August and October starters know that the nurse packs weren't even in it. I guess they are having issues with the publisher for one of the books that we need for the HHSC class. I'm hoping to hear more real soon, considering that class starts in a few days.

I was just posting that list for anyone who maybe hadn't looked at it in a while....

They needed nurse packs last year, so maybe that employee worked there last year, and isn't aware that a lot has changed for the program this year? I guess that's something worth asking someone in the nursing office about.

Yeah definitely! I'm curious because I know there was a lot of changes that were made. My biggest question is cost for the first year of the program, which includes class costs + supplies. That's my biggest issue right now, is cost.

If tuition is an issue remember that you do not need to register for all of your classes at once. You can register this month for the august clases but wait until early Oct to register for the next set. At least this way the tuition is broken up. That's what I always did.

Haven't regisitered for August yet....but I'll get to it!

The nurse pac is $89 and it contains IV tubing, catheter tubing, an IV bag and various other stuff needed for labs. I was able to see one that they had behind the counter. It's all wrapped up and not for sale.

LauJen, if you decide to rent books for HHSC class, I did notice that the same books for the HHSC class are used in the 1100"s courses.

Look in the orientation packet and on the agenda that was followed look at #5 A. It says Lab Supplies PAC, that must be the nursing pac and they forgot to discuss it.

Lauren - the books for HHSC are used in the program, so you should consider purchasing them - it might be cheaper in the long run.

Sorry I just noticed this was already posted. :)

Just curious if anyone has gotten their books yet? For the HHSC, we no longer need the Standards and Scope of Nursing Practice book due to what a professor has already stated to the book store. For the HHSC class, I have the Clinical Calculations by Keys and Fundamentals in Nursing (current edition) by Taylor. Also there are some scrub orders in, and they will be picked up by your name. I have not gotten the rest of my books yet, as I have to pay for them by out of pocket.

Forensic, me too. I have to pay for mine out of pocket. How much was the calculations book? Do we need our uniforms now or when we start the hospital clinicals? I was going to wait if we don't need them til october so that I can put the money towards books.
