Macomb Community Graduates 2012-13

So, I said I would start this one after orientation so we could all have one thread to talk about things under instead of 10. What did everyone think of orientation? Any un-answered questions? And what start date is everyone requesting? Yay for the new uniforms/prices!

I found a a few of the HHSC books (used) on Amazon for A LOT cheaper than what the bookstore is charging, new or used. Check it out. Especially since you're paying out of pocket, you're not forced to buy from the bookstore...

I'm wondering if those that are taking the HHSC class in the fall and not the 3 day will need the standards and scopes book? And are all of the books necessary? The student nurse one looked like an optional guide/pleasure reading type book, not something that would necessarily be important for class. i just dont want to buy anything more than i realllly have to.

I mentioned this earlier, but when I went to pick up my scrub order, they didn't have mine. So I would call ahead before you go to pick it up.... but they had also ordered more than just what the students needed, and they were putting that stuff out on the racks. I called the bookstore today to see if the smaller scrub pants sizes had come in yet, and they said they were expecting them today, but they didn't arrive... so maybe tomorrow.

Forensic, me too. I have to pay for mine out of pocket. How much was the calculations book? Do we need our uniforms now or when we start the hospital clinicals? I was going to wait if we don't need them til october so that I can put the money towards books.

I am almost positive that we have to wear our scrubs to our lab classes, the only thing we do not need them for is lectures.

wadie - it was also my understanding that you need the scrubs for lab on campus.

Does anyone know the earliest that books can be purchased using a Pell Grant?

for the pell grant we can ask for an advance for books for august 13th you will have to go to fin. aid and talk to them.

Lisa - it becomes available Friday, and any money you don't use will be refunded to your higher one card 4 weeks after the start of the fall classes, due to their new attendance policy.... people have been taking the money and not showing up to class, so now they're implementing some sort of minimum attendance before you can receive the rest... which kind of sucks because i was trying to buy all my books used from amazon or rent them from chegg, but 4 weeks after the start of class is too long to wait. oh well.

Yes I sat in the financial aid office for over an hour today only to have them tell me that I will have to go back on friday to request a book advance cuz that is the earliest they can do it...hopefully it is a quick process. Oh and you have to go to south campus friday cuz the financial aid office at center is closed. If you do not request the book advance funds will not be available til monday the 16th.

HHSC/nursing classes aren't offered at south, so I'm assuming that they wouldn't have those books at the south bookstore. i dont NEED the books this friday, so i'll just wait till next week monday and go get them all at once (the ones for my gen. ed too), and hopefully they'll have the nursing pack and the smaller scrub pants by then. if i rent books from center, can i return them to south?

i think i'll buy the books for HHSC (but not from macomb, amazon is cheaper) since im going to need them again - i just want to find out which ones we HAVE to have, and which are just extra/recommended.

I dont blame you for waiting! unfortunately my HHSC class starts the 16th so I have no choice but to go friday...

I will let you know which books we use during the class.

Lauren - the nurse packs are only available to those that are starting the program. The office said that they have a list of approved students that can purchase them.
