LVN Semaglutide Business

Okay so I am very interested in this. My mom goes to a nurse who gives her semaglutide. My mom has no prescription and the nurse simply provides her with the medication. It's all drawn up for her in tuberculin syringes and my mom just pays her and has me administer the med to her. This nurse has several clients like this with no prescription and just supplies them with the medication. I wanna know how she does this? Because this could be a great business opportunity. This nurse also has a good reputation and very trusted. Any explanations would be great. Like how she buys the meds in bulk, how she is able to do this in her scope of practice etc.

This medication requires a prescription. Either there's a prescription from someone with the credentials to prescribe it, or this is not an up and up place.

No my mom has no prescription what so ever. She just said she wanted to lose weight and they provided it. No Labs, no assessment, just money. And it's not a place, it's out of her house and she literally just puts the injections in baggies.

The red flags are waving. There is no way this is legit.

This is illegal lmao. Nurses *unless they are NPs* cannot prescribe medications in which this nurse is doing within the parameters of her home.

My suspicion is that this is similar to some of the online pharmacies and have contracted with a provider that writes the order.

Why are you not asking important questions?

1) is this medication safe to take considering it is not prescribed? (Think pancreatitis, etc)

2) is this medication stolen?

3) is this safe to take considering you have no idea where is comes from and it's pre drawn from a vial???

4) are you sure this is even the medication you believe it to be?

As an NP I am sick of all this talk about semaglutide craze. Go on a diabetic diet, start exercising, lose weight in a structured, controlled manner by lifestyle modification. There is NO indication from the manufacturer on this medication for just weight loss. It is a diabetic medication with weight loss as a side effect. Only one company is producing this also, so if you see generics, they come from unauthorized labs outside of the country. If you do some research on these unauthorized labs, there is risk for contamination such as fungal meningitis, etc. What some people will do for a dollar is ridiculous. In my opinion this illegal network of medication distribution is no different than the drug trade or black market organs.

If you are participating in this nonsense of administering a drug that you have no idea what it is and without an order, don't be surprised if there are consequences. I will give benefit of doubt and assume you don't know how dangerous this really is. Please heed my warning and report this nurse and her actions before someone gets hurt.

Damn girl. I won't do it. It's not a big deal. And also I'm on semaglutide but as an obese 23 year old who had 3 different kinds of health issues. I needed it. I'm glad I did it. It changed my life.

Yes. In many states a CNM is the equivalent of an NP— just a different title. Which is 100%, entirely, completely irrelevant because you're talking about an LPN/LVN giving people questionable shots out of her purse?!  What is even in the syringes??

Girl your energy is too high for me. I am an LVN.... The lady who gives my moms the shots is a Certified nurse midwife. Please do yourself a favor and calm down. No reason to be so abrasive.

I am deeply concerned that a trained nurse would give injections to anyone without an order without any clue as to what is actually being given. not only is this against the nurse practice act, but it is dangerous.

I am pleased to see how medications like semaglutide are helping to open a pathway toward understanding how obesity management requires the same kind of respect and evidence-based practice as any other medical condition.

That said, as a NP who orders medication like GLP-1 agonists, SGLT2-inhibitors and other medication toward reducing risk for kidney disease progression (thinking obesity, cardiac, diabetes management,...), I have to fight hard to argue to get medication like these newer agents approved through insurance.  At that, I would not be the one to pick up (or get) the medication from pharmacy...it would be the patient. And honestly, I would not personally administer maintenance medications like this, as this is more the role of RN/LVN if it were to be.  The question is that of the order and "mass" sharing of supply...which patient has the supply in their name?...or is the midwife (here too, high risk as this agent is not used in this specialty) who is ordering it personally for ? who.  So much here does not match, and it would be very easy for the appropriate regulatory board to figure this out if not legit.  I wonder what's in that TB syringe?
