LTC Orientation for New Grad RN

I just got offered a position in an LTC for children and young adults. My question is, what is the norm as far as length of orientation for a new grad nurse in an LTC? During my second interview with the DON, I asked about orientation and I could have sworn she said 2-3 WEEKS. But the woman who called to offer me the position today said 3 DAYS. Many of the residents are on vents. 2-3 weeks seems more reasonable, but you never know. Thanks!

chances are its the 2-3 weeks not 3 days especially since your new to being a nurse, im not 100% sure but im just guessing because at my hospital orientation is anywhere from 4-6 weeks if not longer depending on the position

2-3 weeks isn't enough orientation for a new grad who's not worked on the floor before. Our facility gives at least 4 weeks and more if needed.

There's no way is 3 days she probably meant 3 days for the facility orientation. Definitely 3 to 4 weeks since you are brand new nurse.

At the LTC where I use to work they only gave new grads a 3 day orientation.

Same here.

I am a new grad starting at a ltc/rehab ctr next week and they offered me 1 week of orientation on my shift and then I'm on my own. It seemed short to me but after reading posts on allnurses.com it seems like the norm... 1-2 weeks.

I am a new RN and have been at a LTC facility for 2 weeks now and I was given a 6 week orientation...

That happened to me too when they called to offer a job, it is probably three days general orientation plus the 2-3 weeks clinical orientation

Well I am an LPN, but I only got 3 days of orientation at my LTC facility. I believe this is true for the RNs there as well.

My first job out of school was in LTC and I got a total of 3 days and then was assigned to a different floor.

Where I work in Delaware, I got 3 days of general orientation and then 10 days of orientation on the floor. Although things have come up since then that I didn't have happen during orientation (admission for example) I felt ready to go on my own. I also always felt like the supervisors were available whenever I needed them.
